Will this work as 5 seperate drives with a windows storage space pool?

Yes, you can configure drives 1&2 to be individual drives and all 5 are presented individually to windows to do with as you please. I use Stablebit Drivepool which is considerably superior to Windows storage space for configuring the drives.

Is it possible to use this with OSX software raid rather than the hardware raid?

It is recommended to use hardware raid only. The third party software raid is easy to have problems.

Does the pc need a type-c usb port to run this?

Hi, no, you can get a usb cable with a type c one end and a normal type a or b the other end. I would make sure the socket on the pc is at least usb 3.0 for the best transfer speeds

Is the read / write speed 410mb/s for each individual disk or is the speed divided by all 5 of them?

I have just bought one of these and achieved in excess of 200MB/sec, which I think is likely tio be as good as you will get (many reviews I have seen have also attained similar speeds). Some have talked of the 5Gb/sec limit on USB 3.0, but not noticed the difference between b and B (bits and Bytes). Aside from that, most disks (magnetic disks, not SSDs) will be limited to around 200MB/sec (although this can be exceeded it you are running multiple disks in RAID 0 configuration).
