Lakeland Garlic Press - No Need to Peel

Terrible design
Bought on the strength of such positive reviews but I find the design awful. The detachable chamber may sound like a good idea but, in reality, it is awkward to insert and falls out when you open the press to reload more cloves - this meaning you are now trying to re-insert while covered in garlic. It is big and clunky in the hand and the drawer. Reviews are subjective but, for me, a waste of a tenner.

Buy cheap, buy three times...
I don't often leave reviews but felt I should this time. This is my third garlic press. As another reviewer said, "buy cheap, buy twice". In my case, "buy cheap, buy three times". I was really put off by the price of this garlic press, but having bought a cheap one that was rubbish, then a less-cheap one that was also rubbish, I eventually forked out for this one. It actually crushes garlic!! And garlic comes out the holes rather than just getting squashed or escaping through every other orifice. And it even crushes garlic with the skin left on, as promised. It's easy to clean and clearly durable. Very impressed. Still a few pounds more than I think it should be, but worth it anyway.

Good capacity, easy to use, a bit more fiddly to clean.
I like the large capacity. The build quality seems good and the white plastic seems like it will stay nice. Seems to do a decent job on garlic and ginger. You can leave the skin on garlic.I'm taking a star off for ease of cleaning. Because of the slightly complex pivot it takes a little more effort to get at the sides of the crushing block. Garlic tends to track up there. Also the crushing basket requires a bit of dexterity to reload into the press after cleaning. Hardly a deal breaker though if you have any issues with dexterity you might want to try getting the basket in and out first.

Good but broke after a few years
I bought this in 2017. It lasted fairly well up until recently when it began to fall apart and broke. After some argument, Lakeland did honour their guarantee and provided a full refund. I think the first agent I spoke to was new!The replacement we bought from IKEA isn't as good, but I wouldn't recommend the Lakeland press if you have weak wrists. It can also be difficult to clean and can waste a lot of garlic, but generally it's decent.

As what it say - No need to peel!
As what it say - No need to peel!Much better than my basic garlic press bought from Tesco! The mechanism just simple - a good pivot and arm design, so you can press the garlic with less force. The basket also in good design, the holes on it are big enough for galic to squeeze out easily while leaving the skin in the basket. The pressing process goes easily, since the squeezing force quite strong, prepare a bowl to collect the garlic mesh or otherwise they will squeeze out everywhere!

Good
Very good. Just realised you dont need to peel and i think you probably wouldn’t need to as the peel would stay inside. Wow gna try this again tomorrow! Been using fresh garlic which makes it good to useNeed to have a strong hand to press down thought. But i guess its only a problem if you’re cryshing 10 pieces of garlic coz then ur hand would hurt otherwise its ok

Possibly the ultimate garlic press?
Substantial and easy to clean press, and it does crush garlic with the skins on! However, although I am very happy with this item I find it takes me less time to peel the garlic first than trying to clean the skins out after. Be warned this item does take up a lot of drawer space, but that is what makes it easy to use

Brilliant piece of equipment
Amazing. Comes apart for easy cleaning. No need to peel the garlic. Bung it in whole and crushed garlic out the other end no problems. Would definitely recommend as your new favourite kitchen utensil!
