Works great
This wont detect it before you do if you are close by for home cooking gas. But it does sound a large enough alarm. We had something boil over and switch of the flame and this alarm let me switch it off soon. I think that one incident makes it totally worth it.

works, inexpensive, but dangerously inadequate instructions and inconsistent manufacturing
From the positive side, this detector isn't particularly expensive, and both of the units I got worked fine, including detecting gas reasonably promptly when I put them over the stove with the automatic sparker disabled. On the negative side, the instructions are dangerously inadequate in that they do not make clear that the unit must not be plugged in if you have a standard 9 volt battery installed; some other detectors I've gotten have a standard battery that is used as a backup during power outages and can be in the unit while it is plugged in, but when I tried that, it eventually made popping sounds and the battery was swelling and extremely hot. When I got a replacement unit, the cord was several inches shorter, so would not reach the socket when mounted on the bracket I had previously installed.

Such a Good Device!!
I purchased this plug-in detector for the natural-gas furnace closet of my house. The device has a warm-up time of 180 seconds (during which the alarm mode warnings can be tested by tapping the front plate)ProsEasy installationWorks wellProvides peace of mindExcellent customer serviceConvenient and not an eyesore.

Batteries do not fit into back compartment
Easy enough to plug in, however there is a battery compartment in the back (battery backup during power outage) however there is no mention in the directions; additionally 2 AA batteries are too large and battery back will not close; 2 AAA are too small. Makes me wonder what else about this thing is messed up. Since it is safety-related I am returning.

No battery instructions
There is no instruction in directions supplied as to battery type or replacement. The battery chamber is missing a connection at one end to complete a series connection. Installing batteries would not work even if one could get a pair of AA batteries into the compartment. (batteries too long to fit recess...springs too stiff). I will reserve further comment to when sufficient use time accumulates.

Give me peace of mind
I thought there was a gas smell but no one else could smell it. I bought this to give me peace of mind and it didn't detect anything so I fell safer. Also, nice that it is a fire and carbon dioxide detector as well.
