Yes, we got the coaster model because it had both back pedal breaks and hand break.

Does the 18-inch come with training wheels?

No, in fact you do NOT need training wheel on the EZ bike any more. This EZ bike allows kids to ride as a balance bike first to gain confidence, and transform into a pedal bike in a blink of an eye. If the kid have ever experienced on a balance bike, it will take less than 30 minutes to master biking with a EZ bike, no training wheels needed.

What is the difference between freewheel vs coaster brake?

The main difference is the brake type of the rear wheel. A freewheel bike allows the pedals to be pushed in either direction, although only forward pedaling propels the bike. This type of bike makes it easier to learn to ride, because as the rider loses balance she can backpedal to regain it. Handbrakes are easier to use than coaster brake and can speed up the learning process for beginners. A bike with coaster brake can only be pedaled forward, while pedal backward will brake the rear wheel. The coaster brake also limits the backwards movement of your pedals.
