Humble Heroes tell their own stories. Actual accounts of their valor and heroism in combat.
This has straightforward accounts of heroism written by the actual aviators who flew the missions that earned their Distinguished Flying Crosses. Their humility and candor while sharing their experiences is incredible. These are men who walk among us, unnoticed as seeming like an average American, while having achieved the completion of missions truly praiseworthy and usually returned to the scene of battle to do it again. I know some of these heroes and they are impressive men. Also supported with beautiful photos and graphics. This book is excellent reference material from a military as well as an historic perspective. It covers WW II, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam and all the services.

The large book allowed larger print for old warriors like me, for that I am grateful. My son told me to be kind, for he knows how I feel about war stories. We all have some and maybe these stories should be told so that "heroes" past, present and future are immortalized for service to their country. However; there were so many "heroes" that died for their country that their stories are only their names etched on a "Wall". For the survivors, it may be time to turn the page, and "let go".

What our aging veterans have done for our Freedoms and the American way
I like the respectful tone, honest and unassuming presentation of the events without hyperbole or bragging.I like how each of these men present their own story in their own words. I like the fact these are new accounts not presented elsewhere, and the format which may be used by other organizations to create their own books. The book is spiced with humor and pithy comments and each chapter is a complete story.

Excellent Book. I know several of the individuals who were profiled in this book. The book is well written. I especially enjoyed reading the life histories of each individual. The book helps preserve a vital part of our American History. I have been told ,that today in our public schools, some history text book have only one paragraph on World War II . We need more books like this.

Real stories by the airmen who experienced incredible odds, and were recognized for their efforts.
“Faces’ is the real deal. Experiences told by the people who were there. No bravado, no bragging, just the honest description of the event (or events) that earned the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Real combat, real rescues, and what went on with the airmen after their military service. Heroes all. I would recommend this to historians, aviation enthusiast, and readers of non-fiction military accounts.

In awe of these humble heroes
I was struck by the humility and matter of fact description of each contributor’s story. Some I know didn’t even think their story worthy of retelling. Such is the greatness of these men, just doing what was necessary to support their comrades and mission. The book is gracefully executed and each bite-sized story stands alone. An easy and satisfying read filled with vital historical perspective.

A Beautiful tribute to American DFCs
A masterpiece of real-life hero true stories ! Just like sitting with your favorite uncle and listening to details of his near death experiences in the air. The beautiful thing is they survived, their stories are verified and documented, and they tell it in their own words. MM
