Whats the benefit of 8k versus just 4k?

On most receivers “8K” supports 8K/60Hz or 4K/120Hz and below. “4K” supports 4K/60Hz and below. Many gamers want 4K/120Hz for faster frame rates, but will need a compatible TV and an ultra high speed hdmi cable to take advantage of this.

Does this unit turn on automatically when the tv is turned on, or do i have to turn it on separately each time i watch tv?

I have a Sony TV which will turn it on, but that's been a Sony specific feature for years). I believe the dedicated HDMI port you connect a TV to supports this for most brands of smart TV.
