XTRONS Optical Fiber Head Unit Replacement Decoder Box for Mercedes-Benz E/CLS/SLK/SL/CLK Series

Please do not buy this product, all the good reviews are fake! I have tested the decoder and it is not reliable for the task. The circuit is not even built appropriately, it will stop working after a few days. I had to replace three times and it never worked more than 4 days. Probably my review will be deleted and I will be reported but at least I am trying to warm you this decoder doesn't work. Buy an amplifier instead if you have a HK System on your Mercedes, it worked perfectly on mine and the amplifier cost me same price as this decoder. No more headache or disappointment getting in the car and no sound!

I have a 2010 CLS 550 with the Harman Kardon branded Logic 7 sound system. It was a little confusing figuring out which optical decoder would work with my system, but this appeared to be the right one, and indeed it was. Since some reviewers have reported that their units stopped working shortly after instillation, I wanted a week. I've used the car every day for the past week, and it continues to have excellent audio quality using the factory speakers and amp.I do wish this unit included some instructions, or at least a wiring diagram, but it was pretty easy to figure out. It just needs constant power, accessory power, and ground. You can connect the red and yellow wires in line with the ones to the head unit. The RCA plugs get right and left line outputs from the head unit. Overall, I am very pleased with this unit and can recommend it.

I spent endless hours trying to figure out why my Android unit has no sound just to come to conclusion that this piece of "equipment" is not doing its job! No manual, no support. Do yourself a favor: get some legitimate product to safe yourself a headache and money..

Simple install. Worked PERFECT adding an aftermarket head unit to the existing Harmon Kardon Logic 7 factory Amp and Speakers. No loss of sound quality. Highly recommended.

Reasonably priced and it did it's job.

I bought this item to integrate an Android head unit with my W209 Mercedes. The manufacturer doesn't provide any instructions or support--so if you know, then you know--I guess. It took a lot of time and frustration to finally get it wired-up correctly. The red wire goes to the red ACC wire coming from the head unit (that's easy); I used a 20 AWG butt connector and crimp tool for this. The black and yellow power wires need to get tee-spliced into the black and yellow wires on the head unit's ISO harness; I used 16 AWG butt connectors for the tee splices where I could get two wires into one side and single wire into the other side. Make sure you disconnect the ISO harness from the vehicle when making the power splices, otherwise the exposed wires might touch each other and blow a fuse to the COMAND unit like I did (durr). Works like a charm, but the lack of instructions and support is infuriating since this took me many hours and multiple messages with the head unit vendor in Hong Kong to sort out. Also, the manufacturer could have easily engineered a power connection on the head unit to make this decoder plug-and-play. But no, they send it out the door and leave you to pull your hair out.
