Best book by far for preparing for the lab exam
There may have been errors in the first printing, but my 2nd edition copy seems to have fixed that issue. The point of this book is to prepare the reader for the CCIE Routing and Switching lab exam. It covers all of the fundamental, or "core" protocols. There's no book that could make you 100% ready for the lab exam, but this one will get you 90% of the way. While it's true, as another reviewer pointed out, the labs in the book were written out using real hardware. But it's a simple process to adapt them to virtual- I've run the labs in GNS3 and EVE-ng no problem. Honestly, if you can make the labs work because the book say use FastEthernet interface 0/19 and you have to use Ethernet 4/1 instead- then you're not ready for this book anyway. There are a handful of things that did not work in the virtual labs (couldn't get MST working in GNS3 for example), maybe a different IOS version would in a virtual environment, so maybe that's why the author chose to use physical hardware- it ALWAYS works.Best CCIE lab exam prep bok I've ever seen.

Narbik's Bridging the Gap is a Lab Workbook For Those Serious About Personal Study
I've read the official study guide for the CCIE Route/Switch which was also authored in part by Narbik Kocharians. I've also purchased and worked through entirely this text as well.A couple important notes about this book. First, this is not a theory book. This is a Lab Workbook. This book is purchased with the expectation you will program Cisco routers and switches for hours upon hours. This text does cover theory in detail to make sure you truly understand the fundamentals of how the primary routing technologies work, but it does this through practical application of routing protocols and other technologies. This book also assumes you are already solidly at or above the CCNP level. I don't think this text would be that beneficial for someone who doesn't already have a strong understanding of how RIPv2, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, EIGRP, EIGRPv6, and BGPv4 operate.I would highly recommend this text for anyone seriously studying for the CCIE Route/Switch and willing to invest the time it'll take to work through these labs. As a side note, I would also then recommend Narbik's Micronics bootcamp which gives you access to several thousand more pages of labs and detailed lectures and information on routing and switching.

A must have book.
Got this book a few days ago. I already have my CCNP and been working in the networking field for many years. So I have decided to take the jump and get my CCIE and take my networking skills to the next level. Well this is a great book. and Narbik Kocharians is the man. He is the top guy to learn from. This book fills the gaps that a CCNP is missing and plus it keeps you sharp. the book is all labs and troubleshooting. Thinking about getting your CCIE this is one of the books you should get.

Very good book
The book full fill its objective of bridging the gap from CCNP to CCIE. The author does not spend much time with complex explanation. At same time he explains the theory in a narrative way with examples using CLI configuration to prove the theory. If you want to refresh your CCNP skills or study for CCIE it is a very good book to use. If you support a network for R&S then you should have it handy.

Very unreadable and not helpful.
I bought this book to help prepare for the written exam. What I got was a poorly written collection of "lab exercises" that are hugely repetitive. Author seems to have employed the cut and paste writing method as so much of the book is copied from the router, switch, firewall, etc. configuration CLI.Some of the worst and laziest writing I have ever seen is in this book.I would return this for a refund, but unfortunately, I did some highlighting on a few pages before I realize what a piece of crap this book is. I am planning to donate it to the nearest recycle bin.Do NOT get this book if you want to prepare for either the written or lab exam. This is not the book you are seeking.

Buen contenido
El contenido del libro se me hace muy bueno, no me agrada el hecho de que es necesario tener el laboratorio físico para poder subir las configuraciones y así ir con los temas del libro, en mi opinión esta mas enfocado en ser un manual practico.

Best book to start preparing for the CCIE R&S v5 LAB
Best book to start preparing for the CCIE R&S v5 Config LAB. No boring theory like other books. Completely a different structure and flow. All are Task Base as LAB Exam Questions covering the basics of CCIE R&S v5 LAB Syllabus. All basic and in detail practical explanations. TASK, CONFIG, VERIFICATION & few lines of summarised key notes.Just completed reading cover to cover. As the title says Foundation, this is too basic for just to start with & nothing to do with v5.1

Be Careful when buying this book, many issues!!!
"Correction - After reading the front of the book when starting chapter 7 it talked about pasting in some configs from a txt file, going back to the front of the book to the part that no one, ever, looks at there is a small reference hidden away where it directs you to register the book with Cisco to download the configs for the book. This needs to be made MUCH!!! clearer in other parts of the book to avoid this type of confusion for the readers. Unfortunately it wasn't until I stumbled across this suspect tiny bit of into that lead me to finally discover the configs online that I'd already spent a long time picking apart the show commands from the book to build the lab for chapter 6 myself so I could do the actual lab. There was nothing complicated about it, it just took a lot of time which I don't thank Cisco for as it was just time wasted I could have spent learning the content.I stick to my original comment though that every book NEEDS to be tested by someone at the appropriate level that the content is aimed at to ensure it is of sufficient quality before release."----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Not a bad book but has serious issues, a like the lab approach, I found it easy to learn and understand the subjects but it's terribly written and feels very rushed. Just started chapter 6 and run straight into a major issue, Chapter 5 showed you repeated how to setup the lab you are working on which was great, I liked it, had no issues. Onto chapter 6 and all it gives you is a very basic diagram of the topology and that's it.That would be fine in most circumstances and a competent network engineer can create the topology but as soon as you start reading you realize there is a huge amount of other configuration information that I can't find reference to anywhere in the book or online making it impossible to setup the lab and carry out the tasks thus making the entire chapter impossible. I'm completely flabbergasted that something that important could be missed.I have to ask Cisco, ever heard of proof reading? and maybe asking someone to actually work through the book before it is released. These are pretty obvious things that obviously were completely ignored when releasing this book.
