Dianetics
This is an interesting book, once you get past some slightly confusing stuff at the beggining it becomes very interesting and informative. Although there are mixed reviews about this book and the related religious views associated with it. There is no need to accomadate any scientology beliefs to read this book and learn from it. A good read!

Fantastic. Dianetics works. It should be taught in schools
I read this book in 1978.... I used the techniques in it and it litterally blew my mind away. Just reading the book changed my views about myself, people, and the world in general.I got rid of loads of internal stress, unjustified fears, self doubts, and actually physical problems - especially a chronic back pain which for years had been quite delibitating. What you get rid off with Dianetics is gone forever. The best proof for me personnally is that I don't catch colds, no more bad back, and at 67, 42 years later I feel great and am as happy a chap as I have always been... Is it a result of Dianetics?Well... I think it is because I am not an isolated case. Several of my friends have experienced similar long lasting improvement of their mood and health. It also make you understand the source of the social slump we are in today worlwide. This book... Dianetics should be taught in schools.

Absurd
Got the book out of curiosity because the man is a nutter. It was evident throughout the book the man himself had some mental health issues. My eyebrow has yet to relax from being raised so much by the book. I also received a helpful letter telling me where my closest Scientology center is and my first auditing session is free. How a religion was based off this book, or even a cult for that matter is baffling. The book is ridiculous. They claim to cure eyesight and hearing issues. I must be filled with βengramsβ to be writing such a review. Good for a laugh though.

I was open minded, I found the information good and the therapy actually works
Itβs not the easiest read to begin with but a lot of information in there I simply had never come across before. It made sense to me and had answers that I had been looking for for a longtime. After reading it twice I decided to go to the church and experience auditing first hand.Dianetics auditing worked very well for me and then I read the book again after being audited and it made even more sense then before.

Interesting theory, but completely pseudoscientific.
I've been fascinated by Hubbard and Scientology for a long time but haven't read "Book one" until now. Well, now I have, and Hubbard's theory is an interesting one. Unfortunately, it's not true. It has been disproven in scientific tests. What strikes me most about the book is the confidence with which Hubbard presents his theory. He claims it's a proven science and refers to experiments. Still there's not one single source to back up his claims. The reader must take his word for it. This contradicts something Hubbard writes in the book: "A science that depends on Authority alone is a breath in the wind of truth and is therefore no science at all." About this, he is right. And Dianetics has not proven itself to be true. It is based only on Hubbard's claims, and is thus a pseudoscience.Hubbard also writes some quite offensive things, such as that a society which accepts perversion, including homosexuality, doesn't deserve to survive. He also writes about certain "primitive" people, such as the Zulus, that the only reason the Zulu is not in the madhouse is that his tribe doesn't have any madhouses.I recommend the books to those who want to understand what Dianetics is and what Scientology evolved from. Those who are looking for a self-help book that actually works should look elsewhere. Were it not for the Church of Scientology I doubt this book would have been in print for the last forty years or so.

Great book!
I bought this book some years back. As English is my second language it was not an easy read for me and took quite some discipline to make sure I fully understand what L. Ron Hubbard wrote. Now, having read it more than once, I fully get the concepts and their application in day to day life. Not only did it explain perfectly why human behave irrationally it also gave me a different perspective on the people around me. The book was an important step to start to reflect on my own behaviour and got me started changing for the better.

Its Scientology folks don't knock it until you test it .
A very interesting subject Scientology , however its not a cheap hobby, Am not a Scientologist yet, I am just interested in it and even though it has many critics each to their own i say . Every religion charges a price in the Pentecostal and Mormon churches you pay a tithe and what do you get from that ? With Scientology you get the tools to live a happy drug and alcohol free life . Don't knock it until you have tried it folks !
