Bismuth Metal Kilogram 99.99% Pure

A kilogram of bismuth isn't actually all that much volume, so it took me a while to find a setup that I could use to melt this down for crystal making that wouldn't cool too quickly around the edges or bottom. I eventually settled on using a small stainless steel bowl with a copper-clad bottom and sized to give me about 2-2.5 cm of depth when the bismuth was completely melted. That was just enough to get a layer of cooling metal on the surface that I could pull away before the solid metal forming around the edges locked it into place. If I were to do this again, I'd probably want a slightly wider bowl and twice as much bismuth, to give me some extra time to grow the crystals before having to pull them out. I did get some nice small (3-4 cm diameter) crystal masses, which froze with different colours depending on the speed at which they were cooled.

Can't complain. Melts down, crystallizes upon cooling. Looks friggin sweet.

Received as ordered. Packaging of something this dense and heavy could have benefited from more thought.

Love messing with this stuff, just be careful as the heat needed to melt it is rather dangerous for anyone unprepared to handle it. I have plans in getting more so I hope this seller is still stocked when I do.
