Needs the right paper to shine
I've owned this pen for a year now and didn't think too highly of it at first. Between having the ink pool or feather on whatever I was using it on, something just was agreeing between the pen and I. This was due to the Kuretake no. 7's overly generous ink flow, as my Tombow and Pentel brush pens didn't have this issue on general sketch papers. The Kuretake shines best on smooth paper that has any properties that allow for ink to soak into the paper fast enough not to pool, but slow enough to not cause feathering. From what I know, Bristol, cover, and watercolor paper fulfill these requirements. For watercolor paper, I suggest using something like Canson XL or Grumbacher because they're super cheap and their surface texture is smooth enough to not mess with the nib (this is assuming you're working purely in ink or inkwashes; the Kuretake ink isn't waterproof.)The greatest thing about the Kuretake no. 7 is that it's a refillable felt-tip brush pen whose line widths that vary with pressure, which is not something you'll find often. It's very easy to get consistent lines with this, making it much more forgiving to beginners than something with bristles. Granted, you have to put in a bit more pressure to get thicker lines, but that's something one can get used to. My pen's tip hasn't showed any signs of fraying either, so it's pretty durable.I've yet to see how well this pen performs on marker paper, but for those who work with Copics and such will be pleased to know the ink that comes with the Kuretake are alcohol-proof. If you want ink that is both alcohol and waterproof, and don't want to wait for an empty cartridge to refill, then the Platinum ink cartridges will fit perfectly in the barrel of the Kuretake no.7 (specifically, the Platinum carbon cartridges. They're nearly identical).Another thing to note: this pen is long. Even uncapped this thing is longer than a Pentel pocket pen, nor does it include a clip. The barrel body is also long enough to keep a spare ink refill. If you're planning on using the pen while traveling, then keep this in mind. I've attached some pictures for size comparison and along with a sample doodle. If you want a nifty pen with dark ink that writes like butter, then this is really good. Again, it works best on certain types of paper.

Perfect for thin linework
I previously owned the Kuretake No. 8 model, so I was used to being able to make many varying sized stokes. This pen is not the case. The No. 7 was made for the purpose of making fine strokes-- perfect if you're into making very detailed line work. You wont get a lot of thickness here.

Love this pen!
LOVE this pen! The tip of sturdy enough that I can control the pressure. The really flimsy ones make the perfectionist in me go bananas when the lines are crooked. This one is amazing!

One of my favorites
One of my favorite pens. I originally bought one at Epcot's Japan, it was wonderful. It's lasted me forever, and I've still got a tiny amount of ink left.Shipping took a while, but it's worth it.

Amazing!!
This works amazing with alcohol based markers and needs almost zero dry time with them and NO SMEARING-the best part :D it's horrible with Watercolors though. It has really nice line variation also.

I LOVE this brush pen! Excellent line variation. Extra ink cartridge fits inside pen case.

Great Pen
I'm not a stranger to Kuretake pens. I've been using the No. 8 brush pen since late 2017 but because I was mainly using it to do lettering and I wanted something smaller, I decided to get this. The No. 7 is more like the disposable pens you get in Japan- the nib is very solid and much more easily controlled, especially for a beginner / novice. It reminds me of those red handwriting pens you used to get given at primary school. It writes smoothly but the ink takes longer to dry than it looks, especially if you apply more.Even if you were not using this for art or Japanese writing, it would be nice to work with (I'm a writer, I like pens). My handwriting is terrible but that was the first use of the pen - takes about 30 seconds for the ink to soak through the nib but then gives lovely even writing.Just an extra note, these aren't like UK fountain pen cartridges. You have to insert the flat end into the pen and push quite hard.

Génial
Stylo FEUTRE rechargeable.

Molto soddisfatta dall'acquisto
