Worthwhile accessory.
Does what it claims to. Still to play it through a mic and PA but acoustically makes a difference. There are definatly sweet spots for playing so worth adjusting your technique and trying different things out. I use a Levia Omaya bass studio cajon which has an extra adjustable sound port at the bottom (underneath). Acoustically this makes a big difference but at gigs with a single mic it does not. To get the most out of the kickport I have closed the bottom sound port. It negates a feature on the drum but improves the overall bass response with the kickport.

Amazing product. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. It definitely enhances the sound of the Cajon. Will most likely by a Kickport at some point in the future.

This is an excellent product. I highly recommend it. I put the Port onto my LP Aspire "Accents" model cajon and the bass response was wonderful. Now, I originally bought this LP Aspire because of its better than average, inherent bass response. I fell in love with it the first time I played it, having played many others previously. But, when I added this Port, the bass became louder, easy to coax out of the box, was much "meaner", meaning it contained a far lower bass octave bandwidth than you can normally hear without it being artificially amplified. That is what impressed me most. My whole living room was full of the bass. Now, it was not excessive or overpowering. And, just as the manufacturer advertised, it did clean up the bass and made its bass notes more separate & distinct from the treble snare section of the cajon. Its like a whole new instrument now. It is a joy to play. And, the box now resonates with a pleasing bass hold-on to the sound, which I found quite amazing, like it was a skin drum head instead of a wood playing surface. But, it remains balanced. So, you don't have to worry about it not sounding like a traditional cajon. Its just much better. The Port was easy to install and adjust to make it fit. The manufacturing of the Port is of very good quality. I expect it to easily hold up for the life of the cajon. However, if you own a cajon with a smaller than 4 inch diameter bass port (the round hole in the box), this model won't fit. It is designed for standard holes of 4 1/4" to 4 3/4". Want to improve you cajon? Go for this port. It is so cheap as to be affordable for any budget. I am convinced it could make any cheap cajon easily sound like a drum of much greater expense. You can't go wrong, including Amazon's easy return policy. Give it a try. You'll like it, I am sure.

When it comes to opening up the sound of a cajon--enhancing bass and accents equally--the CajonPort really does as promised. My only reason for giving it 4 out of 5 stars is that it was slightly too big for the port hole in my cajon (only by about 1/4" but enough to not fit) and therefore I had to enlarge the hole. Not much fun, but probably a rare occurrence for most purchasers. I think my cajon (Gon Bops Alex Acuna) has a smaller-than-average port hole, so this item should fit easily in most other brand cajons (cajones?) All that aside, the CajonPort also serves to amplify a cajon slightly, making it unnecessary to mic one unless you're playing in a larger venue (larger than a coffee shop / restaurant / bar). Even when a mic is necessary, the more focused overall sound and enhanced bass give the mic a better signal and increase the amplified sound as well. This is a great enhancement if you plan on using your cajon for accompaniment or louder settings, but also if you want a more responsive instrument in any playing situation.

The CajonPort performs as advertised: it increases the punch of the bass notes and enhances the definition between the bass and snare hits (at the expense of some midrange sensitivity). If you want your cajón to sound more like a drum kit, this is a great addition. The designer compromised to ensure a one-size-fits-most product by fashioning a Velcro ring with six movable strips. The Velcro strips work, but they are rough on the wood and inevitably they form an imperfect seal around the hole. The CajonPort is optimized to channel air directly opposite the playing surface thus it does not work well on cajóns with side ports (e.g. Schlagwerk 2inOne Dual, Typhoon Roundback Series, and popercussion). P.S. If you have a Schlagwerk 2inOne Cajón, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you forego this finicky Velcro CajonPort and instead source a perfect-fitting Schlagwerk CBT 10 Cajon Bass Tube. Both sound good, but the CajonPort by KickPort is much more awkward to remove and reinsert when you need to reach into the cajón to switch your snares on or off.

I have a Meinl string cajon. Anyone who plays a cajon would probably notice that room acoustics and cajon placement has significant impact on the sound quality and projection. This product sort of helps when it is not mic'd up. However, I would not say it is significant. If that is the case, why 5 stars? Well, my cajon is normally mic'd up when I play, that is where this thing really shines. The feedback I was getting was eliminated and the sound quality dramatically improved. I always envied the really good recorded cajon clips that you'll hear all over the web. My modest cajon now produces the same quality sound. For whatever reason, even the snare/slap sounds crispier and I no longer have to mic the front side. The bass is much tighter, giving of a bass sound closer to that of a mic'd kit or a synthesizer (think hip-hop type bass sounds). My band mates and 2 other percussionists/drummers were amazed with the sound difference. Overall, this was the best upgrade I have given my cajon (2nd would be the heck stick).
