This was a surprise gift for a friend. I played it a bit, telling him that I had bought it for a friend. He said that it sounded great and that he would have to get himself one.. Then I told him he was the friend and that it was his! He was delighted with the sound and the ease of playing it. I just might have to buy myself one now.

This steel drum is quite affordably priced, and seems verbally well made. The bag it comes with is excellent, the mallets are not amazing. For the price of it, I don’t have any serious complaints. That is an important caveat… a perfectly tuned nicer instrument would easily be 3-4 times this amount. The majority of the notes are accurate within a few cents and have a lovely tone that resonates nicely. Several are slightly out of tune, the lowest for me is quite a bit out of tune and doesn’t resonate well. Having said that, I don’t personally mind because it has an interesting timbre and for my purposes it’s fine. Once again, this is a budget instrument so that’s not unexpected. Overall I think it’s fun to play and would look nice as a decoration if nothing else.One final note, the booklet that comes with it, has some beginner songs and lists out the “C major scale”. If you read the description carefully/and or used a tuner, you would discover this instrument is not in the c major scale, but rather d major. Likely they chose to write the music as c major since that key is the easiest to read for beginners. If you are new to music, there is really no need to trouble yourself about this; the relationship between notes is what is important, not the actual key (generally speaking), as long as you are playing solo. If you would like to accompany other music, you would certainly need to know the actual key you are in.It would have been nice if the booklet had more information about the physical position of various notes and the reason for their placement, as well as various scales listed out in addition to the beginner songs.

It's a beautiful drum with a long sustain, perfectly tuned, but it has one flaw- the highest note is very metallic and barely has any tone compared to the other notes. It was because of this that I had to return it.

I fell in love with it as soon as it arrived. It's great quality and the sound is amazing. The case and accessories are extremely well made also... It's beautiful ❤️
