Q: Can this be safely used under a small chest freezer?

I would it would work well. It is waterproof and has a small lip around the edges.

Q: Any tips on getting the edges to stand up? I've tried just folding them down and it doesn't work.

I just took mine out of the package, and laid them out on a flat floor, face up, to two days. Now, they lay flat and the edges curl up as designed.
