Can you close the bottle without the agitator? Does it seal?

Yes, what you refer to as the agitator just snaps in place. You can take it out if you want and it will still seal. I am using mine daily to mix a powdered formula with liquid, so I like to have the agitator in place.

Powder can get stuck between mesh and cap, you will need to take the mesh off and wash it carefully after use. It is not easy to clean corners on the cap nor the bottom.
