Bought after reading several reviews. The instructions do not specify that the middle pieces for the long sides specifically go on one side or the other. Several reviews stated the middle shelf is cockeyed and that is because the middle side piece was switched. I made the mistake, and caught it so that all shelves are the same level.The shelves are thin, but I can put several pictures and decorative items on it. They look great with my set up and work well. Just don’t expect to be able to put heavy items on them, so don’t plan that.They were easy to assemble for me, but it took a while because it came with a lot of pieces. After assembling the first shelves, the second went really smoothly and fast. I just wish the instructions specified how the middle side piece should be placed.

I was a bit hesitant to buy at first because of the bad reviews, but I was having huge issues finding a pure black ladder shelf that fit my budget, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm really glad I did! I bought two to place on either side of the TV for all of my knick knacks and plants.Both packages for either shelf arrived perfectly in-tact with no pieces broken or missing. I read these were pretty hard to assemble, but I had no issues. If you just make sure to read and double check the instructions, you won't have a problem. I also laid out all the pieces the way they were supposed to be attached before I got started screwing in pieces.After assembly, they are not the sturdiest things in the world. When I moved them from my place of assembly to the TV area, I accidentally hit the ceiling and it slightly chipped the top corner of the shelf. It was my bad, but that just goes to show how delicate these things are. I would not recommend putting these in a high traffic area, because one accidental bump and they could get seriously damaged. Luckily, we don't walk up to the TV that often so I don't think there will be an issue.Overall I am really happy with the purchase, and really like how they look in the living room. If you are on a budget and want a nice ladder shelf to display your things in a tucked away area, I recommend these shelves!

It’s good for the price. Assembly was pretty much common sense but is time consuming because there are lots of screws. It’s a little wobbly after being constructed but I don’t think it’ll topple over if you don’t put anything too heavy on it. Overall I think it’s a nice bookshelf, but for the price it is it’s not going to be amazing quality. It does the job I was wanting it to do so can’t complain!

We bought these shelves thinking they could be used to hold a couple books. When we got them in I was surprised by how thin the actual shelf itself was, but I went ahead and put it together to give it a chance. It was hard to put together and didn’t give clear instructions on where the side pieces went, causing one of our shelves to be at an incline instead of parallel with the floor. Had to rebuild it. Its appearance ended up looking cheap, it wasn’t sturdy, and it’s not versatile at all because it can’t hold any weight. While it does fit in multiple places it is smaller than my other bookshelves, which I didn’t realize would bother me, but it does. When I realized my mistake, deciding I needed higher quality shelves, I tried sending them back, but they wanted me to pay almost half the price per shelf to return them. These shelves are not worth the money or the hassle.

Was debating based on the reviews.. but I said whatever and got it cause it is reasonably priced & exactly what I was looking for. Honestly super glad did. This product adds STYLE & really makes any space look excellent. It came super fast and was exactly as described. I get compliments from everyone!Only downside I have is the time it took to build. It’s not necessarily hard to build at all, it’s mostly common sense. It’s just time consuming and you really gotta pay attention to what goes where. Plan it out & take your time or you will have to redo things. Little tip: use a drill if you have one to drill the screws in, using a screwdriver will work, but that just makes everything take forever..All in all, such a great piece all around & worth the time it takes to build! Also totally sturdy enough as I won’t be using it as an actual ladder to climb on. 5 stars from me. Get this if you’re debating!

I purchased this for my plants, it is the perfect size for the space I have. It's nice but the quality isn't the best. The shelves are somewhat flimsy. I guess for the price,it's not too bad. I am still using it so can't complain too much.

For about a year now I have scouted for a black ladder shelf that was affordable and within a reasonable price. I came across this product when it was on sale and decided to give it a try, as it was the cheapest ladder shelf I have seen. I was a little worried about the reviews that had issues with the assembly portion of the product, but I did it within 2 hours, without problems, and by myself. I don't consider myself a handyman by any means, but what helped me was laying out the parts together first before putting them together. That seemed to help a lot. Also, as a tip, make sure that the slots for the rails are aligned; that is why some reviews have issues with one of the middle shelves slanted the other way.After assembly, I'd say the final product of the shelf turned out really well and met all of my expectations! Sure, there were some minimal scuffs here and there, but they're pretty unnoticeable once I had put the shelf up. Also, to help it stay in place, I put command strips at the top to ensure it was more secured to the wall. So far, no issues (hopefully)! As far as weight goes, it can handle a good amount of items, but I wouldn't put extremely heavy things such as potted plants on it. I use my shelf primarily for lightweight books, knick-knacks, and photos, which seems fine for the shelf considering it is on the lighter side.Overall, I'd say the product was a good investment. I do think if it's not on sale, it is pricier than it should be since the product is simplistic in design, but if you get it at a good deal, then I think it's definitely worth it!

Shelves were a little bit smaller than I expected.

Not the most stable shelf and it stains really easily. Even with the black finish markings show up and I have yet to find a way to properly clean it. Even water seems to stain in.

Love the way it looks. Make sure to put little protective pads on the two tops to protect your wall. Only downside was that the small screws are literally 1mm too small. Some were hard to get in and it seemed that it was just not put together well (attaching sides of the shelves to the back part), but knowing the bottom screwed in well we knew it would be okay. I think it is a little pricey, but no regrets buying it.
