Useless for beginners!!!!
This DVD is incredibly tough for beginners, the movents are far too quick - if you have tried the Ministry of Sound 'Pump It Up' DVD, it is very similar to that! There are hardly any stretches, more lunges and squats and they rarely mention when or how you are supposed to breathe. This would be a good toning DVD after you have done it half a dozen times, and got the hang of the moves, but is definitely not for those starting an exercise regime.

the best for toning ever!!!!
i cant believe how amazing this dvd is!!! its a bit hard to follow at first but as soon as you know the moves everything falls into place and i mean that literally. i've been gyming for months and have lost some weight but needed to tone up at the same time. doing this dvd 3 days a week has done the trick. if thats what u want then buy this dvd. but here's a warning, its not for the faint hearted but if u persever its so worth it, especially when u can fit into your white skinny jeans with no flabby bits...oohh thats me hehehehehe!!!

not for beginners!
This dvd is really good but I would only recommend it if you have already some experience in plilates or yoga. If not you will proberly struggle to begin with. The dvd gives you a full workout with options to create your own workout and turn the narration on or off which I think is really good. The meditation session at the end of the dvd is also quite good.

Chilled work out
This DVD is very good. I had it originally when it was released, but mislayed it in a move. I was very happy to find it in Amazon for not a lot of money. It's chilled, and there a 3 levels to work to. Great if you like the chilled CD series from MoS, as the tunes are just right.

Not bad, but not brilliant either...
Having left my beloved-but-far-too-expensive gym last summer and gone into a bit of a slump, putting on a stone in weight since, my New Year's Resolution a few weeks ago was to lose the aforementioned stone as quickly (and healthily) as possible. I used to LOVE the Les Mills classes at my old gym and would have attended five or six classes per week - it's the one thing I really miss. So I went on a bit of a search for exercise DVDs that would be comparable to the Les Mills style of workout - i.e: fun, challenging and with a kick-ass soundtrack. As I've discovered through a few bad purchases, the only ones that even come close are the Ministry of Sound DVDs. I've already got the MOS Pump it Up - Burn It, Lose It DVD, which is a reasonable substitute for my beloved Body Combat classes; and I then bought Chillates as a stand-in for Body Balance (a choreographed mix of tai chi, pilates and yoga).I am nowhere near as fit or flexible as I had become previously, but I have to say that I still didn't find the Chillates workout all that troublesome. I'm happy that it will help me start to tone up again, and will help me get my flexibility back; but I just wonder whether, after a few weeks more, I will be finding it all that much of a challenge...? The warm-up section is fine (although I could do a more comprehensive one myself). The guided meditation isn't a patch on my old instructor and some of the wording is fairly odd, which made me laugh rather than relax the first time I heard it! The standing yoga section is pretty good but only starts to really get into a smooth, flowing routine towards the end; the core strength section is reasonable and the salutation section is fine too (though, again, I prefer my own sun salutation sequence). I would agree that the Chillates DVD is not suitable for complete beginners - you will struggle with the salutations if you don't already have at least some core and upper body strength - and the narration is not all that helpful in keeping up or following the moves. But if you've done a little yoga or pilates before, or have a basic level of fitness, then you should probably be able to give it a go; there are three different difficulty levels, after all. And speaking from experience you should, with this type of workout, notice some physical changes pretty quickly if you persevere with it at least once or twice a week.So all in all, it's a decent enough DVD; all the better for the addition of some good music instead of the usual pan pipes background dross. But I am reserving judgement on how long this workout will actually keep me occupied or challenged once I get fitter again...

totally unsuitable to learn from
This is not a good way to learn a decent practiceNot enough detailed commentary - which you need to have as you are moving around and cannot keep your eyes on the screenIt tries to be all things by mixing advanced, intermediate and beginners all together - so again, you need to keep your eyes on the screenAnd it goes too fast if you are a beginner, you just end up flailing around - they would be better to have different streams. My level - is someone who has done a lot of pilates and yoga but am very out of practice, so for a real beginner god knows what kind of mistakes (possibly harmful) they would make

Maybe not so chilled but still good fun
I agree with the other reviews here in that this workout DVD, when doing the full wokrout is quite strenuous and for the beginner it may seem really daunting. However the opition to choose workouts is excellent. It gives u an opportunity to go through the workouts before trying the full routine.'Salute & Strengthen' is quite hardwork, 'Core Strength & Flex'is more relaxing but works the central abdomen, and 'Standing Yoga & Dance' is inbetween. The pace of these workouts is quite fast and it may be worth watching them through and practicing bits before attempting the workout. When she's advising about breathing for the first couple of sessions I'd ignore this unless u've done pilates before. It often distracts you from learning the routines. Having three levels of standard is good and they reasonably clear to follow. The guided meditation as a warm down is a good way of relaxing on its own.The key thing to remeber with this DVD is that if you could do all the exercises straightaway there would be nothing to build up to. Doing even the shorter workouts will still get you extremley fit and flexible with this DVD. If you want a more relaxing DVD then maybe a purely yoga one would be better, but this is really a good combination of strenuous exercise that gets you sweating with calmer more chilled out routines.
