Not expensive HUH728080ALE600. Instead cheap HUS728T8TALE6L4
Received cheaper air filled (not helium) HUS728T8TALE6L4 drives. Mislabeled. These are the low cost hot running drives, not the expensive cooler running drives. I was really interested in helium because they run cooler and I was hoping they would last longer due to helium being non corrosive and dust free unlike regular air and I was trying to get all of my drives to match up (have had the helium filled variant for a couple of years now in my disk arrays).Returning because I paid an outrageous amount for what actually showed up.I think the helium filled 8TB drives are not being made anymore and are out of stock as I have been trying and trying to get more, but have been ripped off every single time (either the drives are old and in the process of dying or they are this cheaper drive with a huge markup and improper label) and I am getting really tired of it.

HGST is my favorit
After two years still chugging away. A fast high-quality machine.

Works
Works as expected. No problems so far. My order came packaged properly, a box with the plastic things to hold the drive at the ends. Drive is running 24/7 for a week so far. Will update this review if things change.I was religiously buying the Toshiba drives, which I have the best experience with. The only reason I tried a HGST is that I needed a 8 TB drive when Toshiba wasn't offering one. Some data from S.M.A.R.T:----------------------------------------Device Model: HGST HUH728080ALE600Firmware Version: A4GNT514User Capacity: 8,001,563,222,016 bytes [8.00 TB]ATA Version is: ACS-2, ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4SATA Version is: SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s)Reads 190 MB/s from the outside rings.

happy and quiet
I was nervous about ordering such a fragile piece of tech online, but here it is, happy and quiet, doing its job in my workstation for a few months now.My PC could not possibly recognize it due to its X58 Express chipset limitation (2TB), so I have connected it through a SYBA's SATA extender board (see my other review) and also reduced thrashing of the drive by using PrimoCache software from Romex. Speeds are great, disk access is buffered, and I expected it to last for a while. I'll come back and give an update if it fails in below one year mark.

Great performing drive, way way faster than the WD reds I was using
Bought 2 of these drives for my NAS and they have been working great.I can get almost 200MB/s speed out of these drives, it has made a HUGE improvement for simultaneous reading and writing operations.WIth my old drives (in a software-raid pool) it could not handle playback of 20mbps video if I was doing a couple other read/write opperations. As other users have noted, these are re-sold OEM drives for servers so they will not have a warranty from HGST, i knew this going in, and for a cost savings of 50% it was worth it to me.
