Brilliant and secure fit for a Freelander II amongst others!
Our Giant Schnauzer recently became totally blind through glaucoma, and one of the adjustments we have had to make is to consider how to get her into and out of the boot of our car, a Landrover Freelander II. The second series of these vehicles measure significantly more from ground to bottom of the boot area due to the provision of a full-sized spare wheel, so any ramp had to be a) long enough to allow a manageable gradient for ascent and descent, and b) robust enough to allow a 30kg dog to use it safely. This Pet Gear ramp ticks both boxes (actually at least three, as "safely" also means without the dog slipping when climbing or descending!)The ramp claims to hold up to a 90 kg (200lb) dog, and I can believe it. Unfolded, it is very rigid. It is 6 feet long (180cm) when unfolded, just right for the Freelander. At 40 cm (15.7 inches) wide, it's wide enough for our dog to be safely guided up and down. The ramp sits securely on the back of the vehicle with a non-slip recessed end, and also has a snap fixing that clips onto the lower boot lock for security - the leash attachment is quite long, so you may have to put a knot or two in to ensure it's the right length. (Too long is better than too short, of course!) I mentioned security of footing above - the surface is rough and sandpaper-like, and our dog has never slipped on it. The roughness means you have to be careful where you put the non-slip side for storage. The ramp folds neatly and easily for storage, and the clip to hold it in place once folded is neat. It weighs 14 lbs (6.4 kg), which is not too hard to lift. For us, it's ideal.

Good enough for my lab!
I bought the 'Travel-lite' version of this ramp for my 6 year old Labrador who has started to develop arthritis very early on to help him get into my vauxhall corsa.I wanted the ramp predominately to be placed out of the passenger door so he could enter in and out that way, but the ramp is rather large with it's three parts. It is do-able this way and does work but would probably work better out of the boot. It is very steep from the boot and he doesn't seem to like that so I'll stick with the passenger door. My advice to anyone wanting a ramp for their passenger door would be to get the smaller green version of this ramp.It supports his weight well (40kg) and he adapted to it very fast. The only other thing I'd say is it's still not very light! It's manageable and isn't too bad but anyone lacking strength might find this hard to move about.Overall, it's good enough and works well but I wish I'd got the smaller version!

Does the job OK for a 38Kg dog, but awkward to carry & fold/unfold.
Mixed feelings about this. Plus points - it fits the back of my Landrover Defender without slipping or moving, and it's long enough for the angle down to be quite gentle. It's very sturdy (takes my 38.2Kg, large gun-dog, no problem). This elderly dog, who's just had major abdominal surgery, can be really spooked by some new things, but was prepared to walk up & down it straightaway. He hates slippery surfaces too, so I was surprised at this, because for all the sandpaper-like supposedly good grip surface, he does slip down for a few inches here and there when coming down - perhaps something to do with his enthusiasm to get out & go nice places?! No slipping when going up. Some dogs might find it rather narrow, but he's just about OK with the width, and it was in any case one of the widest on the market that I found (did quite a bit of research before buying). The main negative for me is NO carrying handle, and I think there's supposed to be? The replacement when I complained about this did not have a carrying handle either - all there is, is a thin ribbon of velcro with D-ring, which is supposed to be the safety-attachment to car strap (haven't needed to use this on the Landrover, as ramp has curved top lip which sits neatly over Landie's lip at edge of floor). Amazon have said they'll investigate lack of handle. Anyway, the absence of such a carrying handle is a big drawback for me, as it means you need to hold the item by clutching it with both hands to your chest - I find it impossible to hold the lead of aforementioned 38.2 Kg dog at same time - some might manage I guess, but it'd be difficult.Setting ramp up and folding back down is a 2-handed operation I find, so you either need to tie dog up somewhere while you do it, or have second person to help. Its "naked" weight is 7.25Kg according to the spec, and I can just about manage that despite having to be careful due to a history of slipped discs etc. It's bulky & awkward tho, & you need to be very careful not to get hands trapped in the folds - extremely painful, and could do damage! Am in my late 60s.Going to have to try and cobble some kind of handle together for it. But all in all, a decent enough product, which does the essential bit of allowing me to get the ol boy to and from vet several miles away

Perfect Solution
Sadly, our recently acquired rescue labrador had been allowed to get overweight, and she could not jump into, nor out, of our Range Rover. So we bought one of these (arrived next day, although this had not been promised), and she took to it straight away. We may dispense with it once she is down to correct weight ... but we shall see?!. Product is simple and well made; feels like it can manage the weight required with no risk of failure and is light enough for my wife to use with ease. Top surface is textured (almost like sand-paper) which helps enormously, especially going up (quite steep into our car); down is not an issue. Quite bulky but with a strap holding it out of the way when stored, we find we can leave it in the car at all times without serious detriment to luggage space. Materials (moulded-plastic) and construction such that there is no reason why it should not last forever; as long as it is not abused/overloaded.

Buen producto

Great product. Picture includeed
If I could rate it 4 1/2 I would but decided on 5 stars. Lightweight, easy to use. It's a little wobbly, however, the dogs were not worried at all. I had nothing to attach the added securing latch to and it would have been better if it was longer, allowing for more options to hook it onto something. Also, the sandpaper coating did not thrill the dogs. I think it would have been better to do strips of the material rather than the whole surface. A few pieces of cheese and encouragement, helped our dogs use it! Easy to fold! and store in the back of the truck. I have a Toyota Tacoma. Attached is a picture of the ramp on the truck.
