I was skeptical, but I didn’t need to be. It works just as advertised. I had a small cleaver I had decided couldn’t be sharpened because I had tried many times and it was still so dull it was unusable. Not anymore. I could perform surgery with it now. It is very sharp as are all my knives. The sharpener is easy to hold without danger of slipping and is sturdy enough to last a long long time. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I own a fancy electric sharpener, the top rated one at a certain test kitchen company. But I hate dragging it out to use it, don’t have counter space to leave it in a handy spot. And I don’t feel like it’s any better than my ceramic honing rod. But I felt like I might be missing an opportunity; my knives are never as sharp as they started, even when I use the rod, maybe bc I’m not nailing the angle each swipe.This thing is the simple answer. I bought a similarly priced, single slot, suction cup model, and loved it, until one day the suction cup detached and the thing broke, and became singularly useless. I decided to look for a different style. This one takes up more space, but has three nicely labeled slots—and one is to sharpen ceramic blades, which I need for my ceramic knife!!! I wasn’t using mine, because I couldn’t sharpen it; now I remember why a loved one gave it to me. It is much more fun to use now.It works just fine on my assorted steel knives, too. I still use the honing rod first on the chef’s knife, only take it to this thing to work on the tip better, but for all the paring and medium sized knives I use often, I use this thing first, and don’t have to do more.This is lightweight, does a good job truing the edge of the blades, and takes just a few swipes to see a change. I love how sharp my smaller knives are now. I do the chef’s on here, too, when I really want to be sure; it does make a difference in the edge quality. I’m not tossing the honing rod yet; it’s still fun to use and maintains my chef’s knife between uses of this guy. But I use it every day on the smaller, cheaper knives that won’t hold an edge long otherwise, and it makes them all useful again.(You could buy better knives, too. But my mom and sister love to give me knives they like, of varying quality and enjoyment, and I’m trying to use them all instead of buying something I might prefer, for now.)

"suction power" is 0 stars for me amazon but besides that 4/5 since I am not an expert but this is a great sharpener and easy to use for the price actually made some cheap knives VERY sharp, initial quality is good, can't speak for how good the sharpen is besides VERY or how long it will last

It's not a high end knife sharpener, but that isn't what I was looking for. After I got it, I sharpened all my knives, then proceeded to cut my finger. 2 days later, so did my girlfriend. So I guess they works REALLY well.Very easy to use, and I do recommend it.

This is my third knife sharpener. My other two are electric and do a great job with my finer knives at my primary residence in NY. I bought this for my vacation/retirement home in Florida where I've bought a really cheap knife set to use until I relocate here full time. Being cheap, the knife set here is ridiculously dull. I figured a $7 investment in a "cheap" knife sharpener was a "no lose" proposition. Well, how surprised am I? While not as fast as my electric sharpeners, this little baby uses all the same materials and principles of my more expensive electric models. Just place it on a flat surface, hold the blade perpendicular to the table and raise the handle as you go so the blade keeps the same angle to the sharpening stones as you pull the blade towards you. In less than 10 minutes, I had a razor sharp edge on four knives. Could not have been better. If you can't get this to work properly, it's you. You are doing something wrong. The only question is, how well will this hold up over time. Being the sharpening rods are made of steel and ceramic, I expect this thing to last a very long time. It would easily be worth double the cost. Highly recommended.

Product came on time. A plain white box, packing and no labeling or directions and marks on the handle indicates this has been refurbished (the sharper unit lifts out for replacement). Seems to work OK and knives sharper after use, but not "wowed". Certainly does not make them 'sharp like new.' I looked it up on YouTube. To help:1. Ceramic slot - is for ceramic knives only.2. Course slot is for blunt/dull knives - pull the knife through 4-6 times with some downward pressure, making sure you get the whole blade edge.3. Fine slot is for not too dull knives and finishing the job - 3-4 gentle pulls through (use little to no pressure).

I remember renting a condo where the knives were dull, and there was no knife sharpener. It was infuriating. This sharpener prevents that problem. It is well designed with an easy to grip handle, and 3 different sharpening options. After using this for 30 seconds, my knives are SHARP! I can highly recommend it.

It sharpens knives rather than tickle them silly. But with good knives from Japan and Germany be prepared to spend a few minutes on the coarsest ceramic slot. Harder steel is harder to sharpen. Not enough of a tussle to be a negative but be aware going in. I ended up both pushing and drawing to speed up this first step. Blades tend to chatter even with blade-only weight on the stones. The next step replaces the chatter marks with finer ones and finally the last step puts a nice looking finish on the angle.
