Faber-Castell PITT Charcoal Pencil Set of 3

These are quite simply the best charcoal pencils that I have used however it has to be said that they are difficult to sharpen. Forget a pencil sharpener this is a delicate operation that must be done with a knife: especially on the soft charcoal pencil. They are darker than your usual hard, medium and soft and that is because they contain more actual charcoal. This makes them especially easier to blend and soft is a really dark, deep black. They are darker than my woodless charcoal pencils but probably won't last as long because of difficulties in sharpening them. However that said they are a joy to use. They contain proportionally more charcoal than any other charcoal type pencil that I have used before ( which seem quite waxy in comparison).

This pen can't be sharpened, no matter with a knife or sharpener, and then one of them actually cracked in the middle, it really scared me, don't buy it

These Charcoal pencils are terrible. The leads were broken the whole length through on each of the 3 pencils. Every time I tried to sharpen one the charcoal fell out of the end of the pencil. I tried sharpening with a sharp blade and a Fabell Castell sharpener, nothing worked. I couldn't use them at all. it's a shame because I have some of their Pitt Pastells which are great. Buy the Generals Charcoal pencil instead, much better.

All the pencil cores were cracked in pieces so impossible to sharpen. Prob due to shocks in transit. Makes them useless and this a waste of time and money.

However carefully one sharpens them,blade or machine,they break! Lose half their length to get usable tip.
