Not sure why you would need to worry about it being water proof or not; but, doubt it. "Normally" it would not be exposed to water conditions, e.g. rain. The August lock mechanism does not go on the outside of your door. It is attached to the inside of your existing dead-bolt lock. As for the Wi-Fi bridge... it is definitely an in the house unit. You would not want it to walk away.

Yes. Once you are in it knows you are in. I did notice one time that I came in through the garage and then walked by the front door and it unlocked knowing that Inhadnt been in the house, but it has never unlocked itself when I walked by with my phone after having been home.
