Never Let Me Down was released in 1987 and features "Zeroes", "Glass Spider" and the Lennon homage that is the title track.

Excellent Bowie "rock" CD.
I've never considered myself a huge Bowie fan, although I have a few albums, including the must have,( Ziggy, Aladdin, man who, etc). I read a lot of reviews of this CD, a few are critical. Every new CD, I always play twice before forming an opinion. I really liked this from the start. To me it's a real rock type album, and the remastering is excellent. My one minor quibble is the omission of the track "Too dizzy". I understand that David Bowie hated it, and demanded it's withdrawal, it would have been nice to have left it on, and leave the fan's to form their own opinion. That doesn't take anything away from the album for me. Highly recommended.

Guilty Mullet Rock Pleasure
Whatever you think of Bowie's 1987 album 'Never Let Me Down', the three singles lifted from it are all cracking - the powerhouse 'Day-In-Day-Out', 'Time Will Crawl' (the song was influenced by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, plus the general theme of industrial pollution and destruction of our planet) and the heartfelt ballad 'Never Let Me Down', plus the rocking '87 And Cry' has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. I've also always had a soft spot for 'Beat Of Your Drum', 'Shining Star (Makin' My Love)' and 'New York's In Love' (don't laugh!), plus the new remastering on this is great! And nobody rocked a mullet better than Bowie did in the 70s & 80s. Full circle now they're all the rage again (at the time of posting).I must admit though to feeling somewhat conflicted as I hated that tour at the time (I saw him at Wembley). Maybe it was all those choreographed cheesy dance routines and my own high expectations of him playing a few more hits? I feel that Europe was somewhat robbed! - as by the time that 'Glass Spider Tour' reached North America (incl. Canada) - then Australia a lot more of the classics were being churned out making it a better tour. Still time is a great healer and he wouldn't have been the artist that he was if he hadn't of done what he wanted to do - and maybe I should have appreciated the concert that I went to a little bit more at the time. Anyway, I've always loved that Julien Temple video for 'Day-In-Day-Out' - could you get anymore MTV?

If you are genuine and serious about music,
I implore you, BUY this album. I had it as a teenager on tape, but never replaced it, and have got all the Let's Dance, Space Oddity, Heathen, in fact 12 in all, and the other day I recalled I hadn't got this. I looked at the reviews and sadly as someone that is normally quite influenced by what I read, very nearly didn't buy it. Thank God I did.If you are serious about Bowie, this is a must have- a bobby feel I agree, but so muCh passion, and the rousing track 6, Glass Spider is worth the money alone. This is a simply fantastic album. Please buy it. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Bowie Never Let Me Down
This isn't as bad as some people would have you believe. 10 years ago I lost all of my Bowie collection and wasn't able to replace it until only a few months ago. I hadn't heard this album for so long I had completely forgotten most of the songs. He is as good, if not better, than I remembered. I really enjoyed listening to this all over again and remembering the music. Most of the songs are enjoyable and fun to sing and dance to. The best being 'Day-In Day-Out', 'Never Let Me Down', 'Time Will Crawl' and 'Shining Star' but I love 'Glass Spider' as it is so uniquely David Bowie and I like the little stories he tells with some of his songs.

In which a martyr is made of a song called 'Too Dizzy'
I was a very precocious fan of Bowie's music - starting, like many 1970s brats with 'Starman' on TOTP when I can only have been 8. I had a copy of the 'Jean Genie' single bought for me by a friend of my Mum's, who also happened to be a missionary priest. He came round for dinner one day and asked - randomly - if 'anyone would like a record'. We heard nothing more until a month later when a parcel arrived with my 'Jean Genie' and a copy of Elvis' 'Burning Love' for my sister. Perhaps some big wig from RCA was a member of Father Dave's parish. Who knows? Sadly, by the time Never Let Me Down was released in 1987, I had already become convinced that my musical idol was washed up and I didn't even bother to buy the album until many years later (and again recently on CD). Recent history has however seen a small 'about turn' in terms of 'Never Let Me Down' - I love Nick Pegg's write up on this album in his superb book 'The Complete David Bowie' for example. The truth is, it's not that good at all, however I would go as far as to say that most of the first half of the album counts among his best work of the 1980s (although hardly up against the stiffest of competition) One or two moments of mini magic (the bridge into the chorus of 'Beat Of Your Drum' for example is superb) do not make a great or even good album, however I have come to the conclusion that of the three solo albums released by Bowie in his 'Phil Collins' years (post Scary Monsters, pre Tin Machine) this is marginally the best. At least Bowie sounds like he is having fun on the album - far more so than on the predecessor, 'Tonight'. So, light years from his best work in terms of quality, and ultimately disposable, but a Bowie album nonetheless and therefore deserving a listen or two at very least.
