Poetry as Spellcasting: Poems, Essays, and Prompts for Manifesting Liberation and Reclaiming Power Paperback – May 16, 2023

Not prescriptive despite all the suggestions for practice. I really love the freedom it invites into the poetic practice. This was really inspiring.

Reorganization of our constructs… of the seeing of our being. Poetic, deeply felt, heart-opening, interconnecting, mind -bending… I experienced this book as absolutely magical. I appreciated the writing prompts, inspiration and sharings. Thank you, thank you to those who helped create this offering.

Poetry as Spellcasting is a collection of poems, essays and prompts written by multiple authors and writers. These poems and essays focus on the general themes of identity, belonging, healing, liberation and power.This collection is separated into six sections:: Portals of Inheritance: Ancestral Teachings, Possible Futures, Languages of Liberation, Disruption, and Magic, Invoking Radical Imagination, Sacred Practices: Rituals of Repair, Lighting Fires, Breaking Chains and Elemental Ecologies, Spiritual Technologies.My favourite section was Portals of Inheritance. I coincidentally read some works by Audre Lorde recently so, I was especially intrigued by the essay about Lorde included in this section.I think this is a very intriguing collection. I thought the writing was beautiful (across all writers!) and I even noted down a few of my favourite quotes to include in my blog review.As a POC woman, I loved the diversity and range of voices that were included. I felt like I was able to connect to a lot of the themes in this collection.I liked the prompts as well; I'm not a spiritual person at all so I was indifferent to the more ritualistic prompts but I see the fun and the appeal in them.I will absolutely be recommending this.

What a glorious compilation of shared storytelling, experiences, poetry and magical living through ritual writing. The world needs more of this! Inspiration, declaration, intent and shared energy to move us forward together, and manifest a better world. The authors “identify variously as Black, multiracial, Asian American, disabled, queer, and femme. We wrote and edited this book as a love poem and spell by and for poets of color, spellmakers, magic makers.”Explaining and kindling the power of language, setting the scene for sacred space and ritual, igniting liberation, disruption, and magic through words and creative expression. Ancestors, Buddhist traditions, spirits of the trees, flowers and death. This book dives into it all and so much more, through the lens of each writer. Big gratitude for this creation. It needed to be written — we need this book, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy to share and buy for many.
