What process do you use for decaf? Chemical, water or else?

We use the Swiss water method, completely chemical free and 100% natural. It is also a more gentle process and retains more of the original coffee bean flavor and aroma - you can't tell it's decaf 🙂.  We would never dream of using any other method.

How much caffeine is in a cup of this decaf?

"Great question, and to be perfectly honest, we do not test for it, so we cannot say with certainty.

The average coffee has around 95mg of caffeine per 8oz mug. In theory, an adult can consume upwards of 400mg of caffeine a day, so 32oz of brewed filter coffee (not espresso). This can be found on the FDA website. For espresso, 1oz of espresso is around 60-70mg of caffeine, so an average 12oz latte has 140+ mg of caffeine.  While the decaf has none as we use the swiss water method for decaffeination.

Our coffees would not be vastly different in caffeine content than other coffees. That said, the lighter roasts have more caffeine content, and the dark roast has the least. This is a result of physics, where the a longer roasting process 'burns off' more of the caffeine.

Question 4

Who would pay $30 for 12 ounces of coffee?!?!

We absolutely get your point. But, we are not trying to be the most inexpensive brand out there. We are trying to be the best low-acid, clean, artisanal coffee. Our coffee is grown in remote regions, in the forests at high altitudes, meaning the cherries have more time to ripen and grow in a natural environment. It also means they need to be hand-picked, often carried down a mountainside on the back of a donkey. We pay our farmers fairly. And we roast to order, meaning you get the coffee at its' absolute peak. Not after 3-6 months as in most retail. It all adds up. In the end, the price per brewed cup is less than 50 cents, and many of our customers feel that's a good deal, for a delicious coffee that leaves them without tummy problems. In any case, there are so many options out there, and there is the right coffee for all of us - it's a great time to be a coffee drinker!
