Wonderful

I bought this laptop for two things: Photoshop and gaming. It does both excellently and not one part of me regrets this purchase. To me, it was worth every one of the many dollars I paid for it. I bought it in April and am reviewing it in December, and so far I've had no troubles whatsoever. When I was researching this laptop I was a little wary because I found a few reviews saying the hard drive would die after a month, or the keyboard stopped working, odd things like that. However mine is still running perfectly after all these months of regular, usually intensive sessions, and I see no wear or tear, no decrease in performance. The screen is very sharp and bright, the colours are all vivid and wonderful, so Photoshop is very, very nice with this screen. As are my photos, nature is bright, macro shots are sharp, everything looks perfect. The viewing angle and anti-glare features are also just as nice as advertised. The keyboard is very nice feeling to click, and quieter than many. Some complained about the number keys at the side and a few other buttons there being awkward or uncomfortable to hit, but either it's not really that big of a problem, or I've adjusted to it. The mouse pad feels nice too, and has physical buttons to click instead of just relying on tapping. The keyboard lights up and gives you many options for how it does so, and is very appealing. It can be turned off if you prefer.I love the dedicated button for the gaming center, it's nice to check instantly how hard it's working or how hot it's getting. Which brings me to the next point and my only minor issue with the laptop: it gets hot during intensive gaming sessions. Not so hot as to burn you (as some dramatic reviews in various places claimed), but it does make me worry for the innards of the device. Remedied by placing a small tabletop fan beside the laptop to blow away the hot air and provide slightly cooler air for it to breathe. Reduces the temperatures enough that my concerns are lifted. Yes it's inconvenient if you want to bring it along places, lugging the fan around, but it's worth it to me. And when you get a thin laptop like this, you need to expect some heat. With the fan on it hovers between 75-85 degrees Celsius, and I've never had an issue with throttling or slowing down due to heat during a gaming session (Ark for example) and get a steady 95-115fps, usually around 105fps. It's been a long time since I played without the fan so I don't remember the exact fps (I think it was around 85) but I do remember that it still didn't lag or throttle, despite reaching 85-95 degrees Celsius. It never reaches 60 degrees as far as I have seen doing anything else, including Photoshop. So cooling ideas would only need to be considered during gaming. Headphones are recommended if you do as I do with a little fan.It does get somewhat loud and noticeable during gaming because the fans are working so desperately to cool the laptop, but if you don't have a little fan you don't really hear it through headphones. I'm not picky so maybe it's horribly loud, but if you aren't picky or plan to wear headphones too, it'll probably be just fine. During any non gaming activity it's quite enough that you start to wonder if it's even on.The battery life is quite sad, I never bother to unplug it so I can't give you any hours counts but it's not the greatest. For normal use it is okay, but not for gaming. If you are playing without plugging it in, the gaming aspect of it takes a hit. Playing Ark without having it plugged in will have the fps suffer greatly after a little while as the battery is quickly drained. Not a big deal though. Some quick pro/cons:Pros:-Beautiful screen-Very quick-Quiet-Nice keyboard-Plenty of connections on either side-Great at gaming with high fpsCons:-Battery life-Heating during intensive gaming (though expected from how thin it is)-Fan noise during intensive gaming if you aren't wearing headphonesOverall, I have no regrets buying this laptop, it's working perfectly and was worth the chunk of change paid. I would recommend it.

I love this laptop

I love this laptop. it is really fast and looks awesome. Great Deal. Everything that I was looking for.I bought this laptop to use primarily for coding and making websites and software development which I know you don't really need a PC of this caliber for but I tend to go a little over board and wanted something nice that would last a long time and be really fast. Originally I was looking at the MacBook Pro but for $2800 for the 15 inch screen I couldn't justify spending that much. This Laptop PC IS WAY MORE POWERFUL at a fraction of the price! Windows defended is actually pretty good antivirus although I ended up downloading AVAST free antivirus which is a little better. What would you rather spend? 3000 after tax on a smaller screen macbook pro with shitty keyboard or 1500 for a way more powerful faster PC?Also I bought the game PUBG and play it from time to time and this Laptop handles the game really well.PRO'S:super fastGreat hardware for the price, see specs...keyboard is a joy to type on and I really like how it lights up and you can customize the colorsplenty of usb ports and HDMI etc...Doesn't come loaded with too much junk software. I only had to uninstall a few programs ie.(mcafee antivirus, clash of clans, and a couple other apps I wasn't using)THIS LAPTOP IS A BEASTCONS:This laptop does tend to get fairly hot. You will definitely need to buy a cooling fan. ( i bought the Tree New Bee cooling pad for $20 (the blue one with four fans))The battery life on this thing kind of sucks. You can adjust the battery performance usage but doesn't make a huge difference. Only lasts 2 -3 hours however I always have the charging cable with me so that's not really a problem for me.At the end of the day. For $1460, you won't find another laptop with a 17.3” screen 120Hz , GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8 GHz, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD + 1TB SSHD, RGB KeyboardGreat deal and really sleek. This may not be the right laptop for you, but for me it is Awesome. Just wish the battery lasted longer and that it didn't get so hot but those are minor issues for me.

Great when it works, but overheats tremendously.

This laptop worked great for a few months back when I purchased it on February 26, 2018. It could handle World of warcraft, and Final Fantasy XIV at high settings with many players on the screen as well as some AAA titles on steam. However after some time, the fans began buzzing extremely loud and would cease to function all together. The laptop was still under warranty so Asus had me send it in and repaired the issue. (This was another ordeal altogether as the laptop went missing for some time at the repair facility.)This was a temporary solution as the laptop would still run extremely hot. Temperatures of 90 degrees Celsius plus. This was with a laptop cooling pad underneath as well. I've opened it up to try and apply thermal paste but one of the screws on the inside was badly stripped ( I found it like this) and I was unable to completely remove the case. I was able to apply the paste which helped for a short time, but the problem with the overheating keeps on happening. Its a beautiful laptop, the screen has great colors, but the performance and cooling take a nosedive after a few months of operation.

Very good laptop for gaming and streaming(fortnite/r6 siege with streaming software running at the same time) but like every other gaming laptops it gets HOT that's my only complaint(I know that they're all like that but it would be fun not to have to repaste the damn cpu when you get it!). Get a good cooling pad and try to undervolt cpu and other little tweeting and you ready to go(gpu overclock)!

Nope nope nope

I'll start off with I have had a RoG for years that I abused the hell out of and it last through 5 years of constant gaming for hours on end and with a heavy load on graphics (high population WvW servers in GW2). I'm glad I kept it, because I despise this computer. It's pretty to look at and it's super light and that's about all the positive I can muster on it.Probably doesn't help that I'm posting while pissed as my main issue with this computer just happened yet again - while gaming, the computer keyboard just stops working. I think it overheats and then it doesn't matter what key you hit, nothing works. I have to hit the power button to be able to log semi-restart and it seems to jog the computer into working again. I've not played GW2 on it, but some Blizzard games in HoTS and WoW and both games had this happen. Not good when you're trying to PvP on a team and have to drop. In WoW, I'm just doing normal PvE and this happens. The computer runs stupid hot, I've never had my other do this at all. I had read about it, but figured it was an exaggeration and nope. It's also loud. LOUD. Like I thought the computer was going to just eat it right there loud. It's fine while surfing the web and even Photo Shop, but any kind of gaming just sends it (and me) into fits. I would say the keyboard thing will happen a few times a week. Going to have to spring for a fan to see if it helps, but I may just go back to my old RoG and use this on the couch for trivial things. SO disappointed, ASUS.March 24 update - Have a fan for this damn thing and it still overheats. At this point I might as well try a block of ice underneath it. The keyboard still stops randomly and it happens without a high graphic load now. It makes my headphones cut out once it gets hot and has rendered two pair (one old set I replaced as I thought maybe it's just time and then it did the same to the new pair about 2 hours into gaming and no one in discord could hear a full sentence) This thing is built for gaming, so why all the damn problems? I'd have been better off buying a $900 laptop at this point
