Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Complete Collection

Are you a fan of A.H.? Then you must have this Box. It contains all the episodes of the collection: each leaves one pondering on the plots and meanings, many; the cast is always excellent and the initial presentations are uniquely Hitchcockians preparing the audience for the stories as if it were fascinating flights ,not only plots but explorations into the human mind, perceptions and the complexity which causes people to act in certain ways. Very good vision and, to me, convenient price for the masterpiece that it is.

For those who like classic television, it doesn't come any better than Alfred Hitchcock Presents (and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour). The master of suspense had droll, dryly sardonic opening and closing appearances, in this ten year anthology. Perhaps the most subversive change lay in the series treatment of wrong-doers. Americas Morale Guardians, otherwise known as the Department of Standards and Practices, insisted that criminals be apprehended and punished on screen to teach the audience that crime does not pay. This made for a predictable and boring climax, as it was impossible for the bad guy to win. What this show did was to transpose this comeuppance from the story to Hitchcock's humorous epilogues. This allowed the viewer to take what Hitchock was saying with a pinch of salt, as he blatantly thumbed his nose to the censors. In one example, he "reassures" the viewer (with a nod and a wink), that the killer did not get away with it because, "His dog, Cassandra, was really a detective in disguise and turned him in at the next town. It's getting so a man can't even trust his best friend." As justice had prevailed, this was enough to keep the censors at bay. This allowed the story-lines to end on screen with a grotesque twist, while transferring the deadening element of predictability to the easily ignored epilogue. There is a terrific variety of episodes. You never know whether a given episode will be serious or light-hearted, or whether there will be a happy ending or a tragic one. Each one keeps you guessing, and most have a memorable twist at the end.

The master at his very best. Well worth a watch on a cold night when you do not want to go out.

There's a tremendous variety of themes and treatments here. Suspense, obviously, but also comedy, whimsy, twist endings etc. The introductions and epilogues by Hitchcock are often delightful (sometimes better than the actual episode). The impact of some stories is lessened either because we've seen the plots endlessly re-done, or because society and our outlook has changed so much since these were made. However, there's plenty still to enjoy, not least the wealth of wonderful character actors. Watch without preconceptions and you'll find some gems.

268 episodes of a masterpiece in television. Half hour plays of suspense and terror, featuring a high calibre of acting talent. There are a large percentage of memorable episodes and the quality of acting is of a very high standard throughout. Hitch's quips about the sponsor are very amusing.

This box set of all the Hitchcock Presents classic psychological crime stories is a must have for any Hitchcock fans. The digital rendering is good quality. Well packaged too. My only criticism is there are no synopsis of the episodes (like in the Twilight Zone box set) and the list of episodes are inside the DVD cover behind the disc themselves. While the DVD box set is little on the overpriced side (more expensive than Twilight Zone blu-ray box set), all in all it is worth buying.

Each story only goes for about 25 minutes. Each story is completely different. Some are better than others with surprise twists at the end. Play spot the young up and coming actors. Definitely a 5 star product in my view.

there is an issue with these discs they will not play in a new or old dvd player or in a bluray player. it suck dog poop because I did not check this out early enough to return them, so I do not recomend anything from this seller.

These are from the 50's and the DVD transfer looks great. Enjoy the stories and the Hitchcock narration. The stories are clever and in general the acting is good.
