(Updated) BUY THIS! How does this only have 70+ reviews on here?!
*** HELPFUL TIP! ***IF YOUR WOWTAC A3/A3S IS NOT WORKING, whether you have had it for some time or it arrived and it’s not working anymore, make sure you screw the mid-section together too, which is located between the big WOWTAC A3 white logo and the pattern of crossed lines (which is called knurling) from the handle grip. Yes, the tail cap end unscrews of course, but the mid-section of the flashlight unscrews to allow access to the other battery contact. Whether that’s what WOWTAC intended so it would be easy to clean the battery contacts, or if it’s just how they wanted to make the flashlight in the factory, I am not certain. But give it a try! I had to figure out this myself.I bet your non-working A3/A3S model will work again as long as BOTH the end cap and mid section is screwed in tight enough, and of course so long as the battery is charged and free of corrosion. I believe what happens is that people own these things for a while and unscrew the cap to charge/look at the 18650 battery and don’t realize the mid-section can also unscrew in the process of replacing/charging the battery. If both sections aren’t screwed tightly enough, then there is no battery contact for both the - negative and + positive sides, then no power to the LED...thus customers believe their flashlight is broken! WOWTAC should let people know about this!- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:Buy this flashlight, the WOWTAC A3S model, over the standard $10 zoom LED flashlight—like Outlite, GearLight— you will see everywhere on amazon and the rest of the web. (I now own the A3 model, which is a suitable replacement also, in my opinion.)The WOWTAC official website says the A3S goes for $35, but is on "sale” here for $20... for whatever reason.PROS:• Bright! Especially the "Turbo“ 1000 lumen mode• Comfy grip and smaller than other cheap LED flashlights so it is more easily pocketable compared to others• Pleasing CW (cold white) tint at night when there is no other light, unlike the Blue-ish tint that you will get from other cheaper LED flashlights...looking at you Outlite!• The zoom capability works well to zoom in on anything without showing the LED micro chip (bulb) outline as many other cheaper LED flashlights do.• Impressively lightweight for an LED zoomable flashlight which takes a single 18650 rechargeable Lithium-ion battery.• Easy enough to recharge the Lithium-ion battery as it comes with a micro USB port on the battery itself (with micro usb cable in box) so you don’t really have to worry about having a special dedicated wall charger for these type of large cylindrical batteries.• Lastly, a rather good price for a good zoom flashlight that are hard to find because making a decent zoom capable light is tricky I hear. So, good deal... and it came with the 18650 battery too! Assuming the flashlight and battery hold up over time. That is something else entirely.CONS:Honestly none so far, and because it works as it should so far, but I’ll try...• Brightest "Turbo” 1000 lumen mode can become rather warm under just a minute of usage, especially near the zoom portion of the light. (Note: this is expected, since modern LEDs still can get rather hot, especially with real 1000 lumens unlike other flashlights that claim to be 2000+ lumens, etc.)• Also, you need to be careful using the "Turbo” mode for extended periods, as the manual says using Turbo longer than 10 minutes will harm the LED chip, battery, etc. Which makes sense, but still kind of disappointing. Makes me more careful about other flashlights that are capable of such high output for long periods of time.• Not really a con, but you do need to be careful with recharging any Lithium-Ion battery. One user review on here mentioned a fire hazard while charging the included battery! So, don’t leave the battery’s sight while charging. It makes me question the wowtac brand’s reliability/safety, but there are always "bad” lithium ion batteries out there, no matter the size, capacity, brand, or product they are inside of. The reviewer mentioned to be careful with the plugging/unplugging of the micro usb cable into the port of the battery. I may want to buy a new battery after hearing that. We’ll see.————————————————Review continued:We have a few Outlite branded cheap “2000 lumen” flashlights and this Wowtac A3S is waaaay better overall, brighter and more useful than the Outlite A100 model that is very popular. Yes, this A3S model is also made in China, as the Outlite model is, but it was soooo hard to find a good zoomie flashlight made in USA. If your flashlight must be made in USA and you want a zoom capable flashlight, look on amazon for something called “BOSTAC BTZ-50 tactical flahslight” model that takes 3 AA batteries only, which was another zoom flashlight that people on the net recommended. I may try that one next. The tint is a lot better on this A3S model than the cheaper flashlights, with a more neutral white rather than a blue-ish tint from the Outlite brand. Yes, the A3S model says it is CW for Cold White, but it’s a much more pleasing color of light that you get to look at rather than a blue-ish light I was talking about with the other flashlight where any company can stamp their name on it and sell it on here. However, we have only had this flashlight for 1 week, and I see reviews before mine which complained about the flashlight or the battery not working! I decided to take a chance on this one since the person I bought this for wanted a zoom capable flashlight and after extensive browsing online for “good/best/decent zoom flashlights”, many people said to try the Wowtac A3S model.Pay twice the price of the Outlite A100 (or any equivalent flashlight) and get this instead. If your model doesn’t work, then that’s life, and hopefully they will refund/exchange for you.Since this has been working the past week and is LEAGUES beyond the Outlite A100, all while offering a more comfortable grip and larger capacity rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery @ 3400mAh— which so far seems to work charge fine in my special dedicated battery charger, the XTAR VC4, also purchased from Amazon—If you want a zoom capable flashlight that is bright, comfortable to hold, comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery in the box, has a pleasing light tint for those dark areas—especially if you are annoyed by all the blue LED flashlights/lighting out there, then buy this baby!I’ll try to upload photos soon.

read detailed reviews- but still a quality product overall...
this light has a cool feature- it is modular- you can unscrew the middle body piece and easily clean/revitalize the spring/etc- the negative electrical path goes through the middle body and corrosion can cause the light to dim or not light at all- disassemble, wipe, clean, de-oxidize and re screw it together- works perfectly again. i thought the light was dead when it was just not getting proper battery contact.

What I like: * Bright
This is a single 18650 zoom flashlight. What I like:* Bright. On the stock battery it probably is around 1000 lumens in flood mode. The driver also scales well with high drain batteries. I estimate output increased to perhaps 1500 lumens when I replaced the stock battery with a Sony VTC5A 18650 lithium ion cell.* Nice knurling and side switch.* The UI is excellent... probably the best I've seen in a stock zoom light. (click and hold from off for low. Single click from off for last used mode other than turbo. Double-click for turbo. Single-click from on to turn off).* Super-smooth zoom action. Probably the smoothest of any zoom light I own.* Absolutely pristine beam pattern with no artifacts. The beam pattern is the cleanest of any zoomie I own. No rings or imperfections anywhere in the beam at any zoom setting. What I am indifferent to:* The spot beam does not come fully into focus. This is aesthetic choice by Wowtac. By having the spot beam come to a fuzzy circle the spotbeam looks better. But the downside is some throw is lost compared to a zoomie that brings the image of the surface of the LED into sharp focus. What I don't like:* The bezel is considerably wider than it needs to be. Lens looks to be a standard 20mm aspheric (very common in budget zoom lights), but the bezel is 32mm wide. If you're going to make a light with a wide bezel, make use of the extra width by including a wider lens or reflector... especially for a pocket EDC where size is important. Otherwise go with a narrower bezel. The only advantage of the extra bezel is the flood beam is very slightly wider than it would be with a narrower bezel.* The light comes with a Wowtac brand 18650 with built-in USB charging port. By itself this wouldn't be a bad thing, except that the battery compartment length is designed to accomodate this extra-long 18650. The spring in the compartment is short. As a result most other 18650s are too short to make contact and the light won't work with them without modification. Also you lose USB charging if you swap to a different battery. On the upside, the battery tube threads are compatible with those for the Convoy S2+. This means that tubes for the Convoy S2+ or Jaxman E2L can be swapped in making for some interesting combinations.Overall I'm quite impressed with this light. It's one of the best stock zoom lights I've tried. Great interface. Great feel in the hand. Excellent output. Good int.

Will not fit standard 18650 batteries
In the last week I bought the A1S, A2S, A3S, A6, A7, and BSS V4 models which are pretty much every 18650 powered model they have. And everyone of these comes with two springs in the flashlight for both the positive and negative end which enable you to use your own 18650 batteries which are not as long as the included proprietary18650 with charging port that is longer than a standard 18650 battery..........EXCEPT this A3S model which only has a spring on the positive side down in the body of the flashlight and not on the back cap. The lack of this spring leaves a gap so the standard 18650 will not work unless you come up with some type of hack yourself. I was surprised about the lack of a back cap spring which led me to do some research and after watching several Youtube reviews I verified through pictures of the back cap that they all do not include the spring to make a regular 18650 fit. This is disappointing and a major flaw for this specific model. I'll be reviewing all of the other models as I test them.

Fix for intermittent operation
I have many flashlights but do not have one with a zoom from flood to spot. This one was worked intermittently until I unscrewed the head from the tube and cleaned some sticky substance from the contact surfaces wit alcohol and a q-tip. It works perfectly now. There is a stick-on plastic insulator in the head and my guess is that the adhesive seeped into the bare metal contact of the tube.
