Shimano Baitrunner ST 2500 4000 FB Reel

Being older than I would want to admit to, I have been fishing since the early 1970s. Reels have come on massively. However I believe many reels are produced now to catch anglers. A good reel does not need 10+ ball races, Fancy seals and other features that in reality give you no benefits.A good example of a good 'honest' reel would be an early Abu Cardinal (54,55,154 or 155); and Mitchell reels (300...a legend and 440).These reels had far fewer ball races, indeed some great reels had non, and no seals. But with a little care they are still working today and have caught many record fish.So, what about the Shimano? One ball race, no rear drag, no seals!Well I bought the 2500 size for light sea duty. And in a word its perfect. It gives silky smooth drive. Long casts, smooth drag and great build quality; in fact one of the best quality reels I've encountered at any price.Ok it has a bait runner feature which I've not used yet but suspect i will try it.I like tech, and advanced features but simply put this series of reels is more than capable of catching record fish, are you?Go buy one.

I have always found Shimano reels to be well made and reliable. This reel is no exception. a delight to use for lighter fishing smooth in operation and a reliable free run and clutch.

Having nearly lost a rod last year whilst carp fishing, I decided to buy a baitrunner reel. I have always liked the quality and reliability of Shimano products and after reading and watching reviews on various baitrunners, I decided to purchase this. It is a very well made reel, as expected, and uncomplicated to use. Easy to maintain and reliable. It is beautifully smooth to cast and a pleasure to use. A purchase I am extremely happy with.

Easy to use

Great reel for feeder and bomb work up to 40 metres.I often like to put a feeder in whilst pole fishing. No chance of loosing rod with runner on

really smooth motion on the reel, feels very sturdy and well made.

Great reel for using downriggers

I own several of the large size Baitrunner. I use them for night time cat fishing in California. I bought two of these, 2500’s, to use with downriggers on my boat for Kokanee and Salmon fishing.These are PERFECT for the fisherman that doesn’t care for baitcasters! I’ve bought a few different cheapo bait feeders from Amazon and they work but these Shimano Baitrunner are every bit as good as the larger originals! I paid them with 7 1/2 foot microlight rods and 8lb. P-Line. So smooth, great build Quality and great price point.I’ve been waiting for Shimano to start making smaller Baitrunner for 20 years. They hit it out of the park with these. I’m going to pick up a couple of 3500 models soon for trophy trout and king Salmon fishing on Lake Shasta.If you want the best, these are it!
