JustIngredients Essentials Togarashi Spice Blend, 250 g - Pack of 2

I cook Japanese food, have a Japanese girlfriend, have lived in Japan and speak Japanese. This is a terrible product.It smells more like curry powder than actual Japanese seven spice (shichimi). The title of this product (Togarashi spice blend) is a dead give away that the producer doesn't know the first thing about Japanese food.This blend should be dominated by a sesame, almost popcorn like smell. Since this blend is for sprinkling on dishes, rather than using in cooking, it should have a delicate, aromatic scent and should taste good just on its own. In actuality, this tastes like exactly what it is; a mix of mostly low-grade chilli powder and orange. It bears almost no resemblance to the product it is trying to imitate.What clearly happened, is that somebody with no actual knowledge of Japanese cuisine simply googled the constituent ingredients of Japanese seven spice and threw them into a blender with absolutely no specialist knowledge. Very bad product, not worth buying even at this low price.

This is incredibly good value for money, I didn't even realise I was going to get TWO 250g packs until they arrived. But I am used to the House blend, which is fiery hot, but it costs more that ten times as much gram for gram.However, I have now reordered the House brand; used sparingly it adds a great kick, which I just don't get from this JustIngredients brand..... Anyone want 495g JustIngredients shichimi which is going spare.....??

Two huge bags for such a good price. The blend is so expensive from supermarkets (that's when they actually have it) came well packaged. Would recommend to anyone who likes to add a little spice to their food.

Great blend! I add a little more seaweed powder when using it on popcorn for extra unami.

This arrived in a timely fashion and although I have yet to use it the smell alone was worth the purchase! No complaints with the service or the product

Good price. Taste is slightly different compared to what is used in restaurants (Nanami brand), a bit more spicy I think. Much better value when considering price though
