John Marrs will will draw you in and make you think
If I read 70% of a physical book in 24 hours it must be good! I didn't want to finish, but had to see what happened. John Marrs doesn't wrap things up in a pretty package in his books, so I'll definitely head to another genre for a minute. But his writing is compelling and so thought provoking! I didn't think I liked Sci-Fi, but I really like his near future, very plausible writings.I really enjoyed this book and his thoughts on social media influencers, ahhhh how many Jem Jones are really out there affecting not only our politics, but our children. Have I said fascinating yet, because this was absolutely fascinating. There are definite trigger warnings throughout this book. Beware. It's not a happy story. Each individual story had something that gripped me and I wanted to see what happened, sweet Arthur. 😔I can’t wait for this summer and Marrs next amazing book The Family Experiment!

Speculative legal premise
Relationships that must be maintained by having to get married. What could go wrong? This what if universe is once again tested. All of Marrs near future books are uniquely profound and cause you to think about the premises. An author of quality worth immersing into this series of books.

Disturbing Near Future Dystopian
John Marrs is an auto-buy author for me. His mind is superbly dark and twisty and I’m all in!In The Marriage Act, which is set in a very near future Britain, the government enacts the Sanctity of Marriage Act. To receive extraordinary benefits such as low taxes, incredible housing and vehicles, married couples can opt to upgrade their marriage but have to also agree to be monitored 24/7 in all aspects of their lives! If you don’t marry and stay single, or if you are already married but opt not to upgrade, you have to pay much more and have to live in the not so nice housing. Doctors, hospitals, etc, take weeks instead of hours as the upgraded receive priority over the singles or non-upgraded couples. If you are being monitored, bickering between couples can lead to being considered a Level 1, and from there can escalate to having a Relationship Responder moving in and counsel the couples for a period of 3 to 8 weeks. In The Marriage Act we follow 4 different people in all different aspects as they try to live within the government’s rules. This book is set in the same world as Marrs’ The One, The Passengers, and The Minders. If you’re a fan of Black Mirror, this has that same feel. It’s so disturbing and intriguing and I couldn’t get enough.
