A creative and beautiful take on the "deal with death" trope
I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day! Here are some reasons it's great (without giving away any specific spoilers!)-This was a very refreshing spin on the "deal with death concept'. That's always an interesting trope but this felt so innovative and imaginative. I can't think of anything I've read like it!- The book alternates between the main character (Hazel) and Death 's POV. Once death's POV was introduced, that's when I absolutely started to love the book even more! Because being given access to Death's perspective much more alluring to read, since in most books with such characters and mythical creatures of this kind, we never get inside their head.- The fact it was in the present tense made it so immersive! I haven't read many/hardly any books in that style and tense. I can't remember the last time I did! But the way it's written in that tense flows so well and somehow made it an even faster read for me!-The pacing was spot on in my opinion! The time taken to introduce the main character and her family felt like it was given the right amount! Enough for us to fully understand her but not so long that we are wondering where Death is introduced. The pacing of the connection between Hazel and Death felt so natural as well!- The descriptions of the landscapes were so beautifully worded and made it so easy to visualise. The landscapes felt very original too!-By the end of the book we're given just the right amount to leave us as readers feeling satisfied but still with unanswered questions and avenues unexplored, so that we can't wait for the other books!- We all love a "who did this to you moment" and the one in this book was amazing so yay.- It combined elements of different tropes so seamlessly, integrating parts of different ones into the story. Like there was forbidden romance, forced proximity, and some fated mate vibes all in one!Overall I loved it. This book deserves way more hype and attention!

Interesting premise
Kiss of DeathTempting the Fates #1FantasyAlice Wilde⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5I really enjoyed this read. The concept and premise was good and the slow burn was interesting. The FMC, Hazel, will do anything to save her father, even if that means sacrificing herself in the process.I liked how Death was portrayed in this book but I would like to know more about him, how he came to be Death (as there were hints here and there that he was hiding some details) and I'd like to know more about the Fates that were mentioned numerous times. This is also a Cinderella retelling but instead of having evil step-sisters, Hazel had evil step-brothers (although one isn't as bad as he originally seems). This book was emotional at times but it also had uplifting and funny moments too.I wasn't keen on the ending. The build up to the cliff hanger itself was good but I feel like it was a little abrupt right at the end. That being said, I can't wait to read the next book!

Amazing hidden gem!
Wow! What a captivating read! I had no idea and no expectations for what this book would bring bit boy did it deliver. The characters good and bad were so well written and the relationship between the MC's was so immersive I couldn't put the book down to take a break. The yearning, the tension, the chemistry, it was heartbreakingly tender and all consuming and I'm so pleasantly surprised and glad I stumbled up in such treasure of a story! Alice's writing is beautiful in its prose and delivery I want, no, I need more! I adored this and will rush to read this author's other works. Highly recommend. Beautiful, captivating, immersive, emotional, charged and beguiling as much as Death himself. 5* +

Not what I expected
There are definite flaws with this book, namely the miss placed trigger warning at the start and the pacing (the first half is quite slow and repetitive) but if it’s romance you’re after then it’s a good read from the halfway point onwards.Only 3 out of 5 as I really wanted it to be darker and deeper than what it is, and I feel the social media advertising of the book had somewhat miss-sold it.With that being said after I finished it I immediately bought book 2

Not really for me
The plot is well-thought out and intriguing. Death is very well written but I wouldn't say it was a slow burn. The first half of the book is very repetitive and Hazel as a character isn't very interesting. We got to meet Death half way through and I was very excited. The first two meetings were amazing, I loved the kitchen scene. But for a slow burn it seems both characters already have decided how they feel, not much angst. The writing style is good in terms of description, the author created a wonderful image of the forest, the witch's house and Death's realm/Palace. I loved the quirk of Hazel being cold. But the other chunks of writing relating to Hazel's thoughts and thought process just make me want to put the book down. Her thoughts immediately contradict something she literally just thought about and they are very tell rather than show.'Shaking my head at this thought''This thought made me laugh'It just really takes me out of the character rather than add to her.I had 20 pages left of the book but was just bored by the repitition. I wasn't under or overwhelmed just kind of whelmed at it. I probably won't be finishing the series .

Love, Death and Hazel
**Read the trigger warnings in the book**LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, this book. Starts out a little slow. At first I was disappointed because I thought it was a Cinderella/Beauty and the Beast retelling. I could not have been more wrong! Sweet Hazel has the temperament and personality of a saint and sometimes, quite infuriatingly, a door mat. Her step mother is written perfectly detestable, and her step-brothers are not much better. One brother has serious, r@pey vibes, and is a terrible human. While the other brother is more muted, submissive and permissive, who takes forever to find himself a pair and stand up to his mother and brother in defense of Hazel, and even then it's far too late. Much like in Cinderella, her father is a doting father but seriously ill and far from recovering. And much like in Beauty and the Beast, she goes to seek help for her and her father. Hazel has to find the one person who can save her from her step-mother's terrible plan to marry her off to a rich, disgusting, old man. However, along the way, things take a turn and she finds herself in the company of Death himself. Poor Death, he's been alone for so long, he's not sure what to do with a guest. They are both very sweet and innocent and bargains are struck, but neither of them expected it to backfire on each other.I know some may read this and be bored to tears, but I loved the world building and character building and set up. Don't be quick to dismiss or forget about other seemingly small characters. You never know they may come back with some significance.I loved so many things about this book, it's better I just make a list.---Death---Hazel---Dual POV---Dark fantasy/almost romance---SUPER SLOW BURN---Very angsty, but not awkwardly so---The author's description and world building made you feel like you were actually there and could picture it perfectly---Zero spiceA few things I did not like:---MFC is super timid and weak of personality, like I mentioned before a doormat---Plot and flow is sometimes a little disjointed, but nothing terribleSpice: N/A--but angsty slow burn is very much felt(more in book 2)Plot: 4.5/5Character Development: 4.5/5Overall: 5/5

Heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time
I have never read a fantasy book that has so much of humanity in it. It has left me in tears by the end of the book, realizing the anguish that Hazel and Death goes through. I cannot describe it in words now. I am just waiting to start the second book and May 26 for the third one.
