Pandemic: Newer, quicker, easier, smaller and better?
Pandemic: The Cure is a 2014 dice derivative of the best selling cooperative 2008 game ‘Pandemic’. Notice Before COVID.Do not be overwhelmed with the many dice in the box. Different colours, each colour its own pips and each ‘technical’ role (player) have their own dice to roll. You roll your dice, to get actions: Treat disease dice, get to the right location, get samples, take dice out of the treatment center. Unlike the original Pandemic, in The Cure the actions you can take are determined by what action faces show up on your role's dice: If you roll airplanes, you can travel all around the world but what will you be able to do when you get there? Get samples, but you need disease dice in the treatment center to sample! You need treatments, which lets you put disease dice into the treatment center, and you must be where the virus is endemic! The beauty here is that you don't get stuck with what you rolled. You can re-roll as many dice, as many times as you want, Remember though, 5 of your 6 dice faces are helpful actions but 1 is ‘Biohazard’. If you roll a Biohazard, you miss out on getting to use that dice for the rest of your turn and it advances the infection rate, causes epidemics and more. So do you re-roll and try to get a sample, risking the Biohazard, or do you use whatever action is already up? If you re-roll, how many times will you re-roll? Once? Twice? These choices are what make this game fun! Each player gets unique coloured dice depending on their role. The Medic has special dice faces that are good at treating diseases while the Scientist has a higher probability of rolling samples AND only needs 11 or more to cure a disease on a Roll for a Cure. The Dispatcher lets you move people around the board more easily, though the board is much smaller than the original game with 6 regions. Cooperative games like this work well.I love the linen finish and the art on the cards. The event cards are like the original Pandemic and the role cards are like ID badges. The dice all seem to be of good quality. You also get a cloth bag and location disks that are nice. The central score tracker it is very useful for tracking info, as a place for region disks, as a treatment center area. The rulebook logical, has examples and is well written: An easy game to learn from the rulebook. The back page even has clarifications on some specific role and event cards. Familiarity with the original Pandemic helps but is not needed.Obviously there is a lot of luck in this DICE game. You have the luck of the action roll, the way disease dice come out on the board, and Rolling for a Cure. The skill part really comes in working together, leaning into the strengths of your role, and taking educated risks based on probabilities. Normally if you get some really bad rolls and everything crashes and burns, it's short enough and easy enough to set up (~3 minutes) that you can just play again! I do miss the big world map, but I get more tension from the rolls and the overall fun crammed into a 30 minute is beter than the original game of 'Pandemic', good as I think that game still is.This is alot of game for the price: There is a "let's play it again!" quality and fun .RECOMMENDED

Spread the word!
Pandemic was the first game to introduce me to cooperative boardgaming. It became an instant favourite and still holds up very well. This should be a staple in every boardgame collection! In Pandemic, you must save the world by working together as a team to control viral outbreaks and cure diseases. How is it played?Pandemic is a turn based cooperative game where you can take up to 4 actions per turn. These actions involve moving around the world to different cities, removing virus cubes from infected cities, building research centres and curing diseases. After each turn, you draw cards to help you cure diseases (some of which may actually cause an epidemic which will spread a disease). And then you draw further cards to advance the viral outbreak. This finely tuned balance is what keeps the virus spreading so you have to work together to stop the spread as well as cure the disease. How do you win?You win if:- you cure all diseases (you don't have to eradicate them by wiping them off the map, but kudos if you do)You lose if:- You can't draw any more player cards- You run out of virus cubes and can't spread a disease further (it's out of control at this point)- You have too many outbreaksThe key is to work together as a team and use each of your unique abilities at the most opportune times. It's a fantastic game that combines strategy, teamwork and luck! It's quite daunting the first time you play it, but after a few playthroughs, the mechanics become clearer and it can be enjoyed by players of all ages. If you have more than 4 players, it works quite well with one person acting as a host for the game and offering their insight to things you may have missed. It also has a lot of expansions which increase the replayability of the game, but in my opinion the core game is enough to start with for a while. This really is a great game!

Great game.
First, the regular Pandemic game is great too, and infinitely replayable with the On The Brink expansion. I would recommend those two in combination over this one, if I had to pick. And definitely if you’re new to gaming, get regular Pandemic. However, this is a great game on its own: excellent story, twists and surprises. Mechanics are the same as regular pandemic so the system is tried and true. It is a legacy game so you can expect 12 to 14 plays, then it’s over, you can’t easily replay or give to others, and you’ll need a regular partner or group to play…ummm… regularly. Doesn’t suit casual plays or random drop-in’s. I realize I’m listing negatives, but this is a clear 5 star game if you are a gamer, and a must play if you like Pandemic. Particularly that for some insane reason I have seen it on sale sometimes for $50. (!?) It is worth way more. Have fun!

Easy (relatively) and fun!
By reading the review page about Pandemic - you're probably a newbie at board games like me.Looking through YouTube videos and BoardGameGeek...As a very very noob to boardgames, you'll obviously need to prepare yourself to LEARN new games, but also TEACH new games to others as probably your friends/family are also noobs.I'm a ramping up beginner to boardgames (have now evolved further from Pandemic) - this game was great because it's easy to learn, relatively (I suggest watching a YouTube video if you're not up for reading the instructions, I did both but YT video alone might have been okay). But fresh and interesting to those who only have Monopoly in their board game resume. My personal opinion, I'm not much into competitive board games or card games as I think they are usually played rather silently as people focus too much on their own part/plan, and some times (or most times) you don't get to have fun by losing (albeit, some games (and some groups) can make even losing fun too).I wanted a game that's more chatty (for, again in my opinion, better purpose of "spending time together") - so cooperative games! This is a great, entry level-ish coop game that involves constant group problem-solving. If you're less into competitive games like me, or if you want to have a break between competitive games, this is a great pick.Set up time can take a few minutes, so it might also be a great break time for the less-engaged players in your group/partnership.The game can also be played solo.. if you play multiple roles by yourself, but it's obviously not as fun.I got this on sale, if it is on sale and you're looking to expand (or start) your collection, do get it!Again I'm a noob myself so I also haven't tried any of the expansions yet. :P
