Canon IXUS 285 HS Compact camera, 20.2 MP - Purple

very similar to my old camera but slimmer and with a handy flat pouch instead of the thick padded one. As a technophobe, i was relieved to see how easy it is to use. Very pleased with it

I bought this as I have been pleased with my previous canon which I have been using for a few years now. The Wi-Fi was what attracted me to this model. Well at first I just couldn't get the wi-fi to work - I downloaded the software installed it. Conected the camera to my network, entered the security key, it saw my PC but would not connect. The software won't open as it says "can't detect camera" Eventually I connected it by going into my network in explorer and clicking the camera icon and adding it! The manual didn't tell me this (hence only 4 stars) - but it worked! and fantastic stuff it is too! Some nice features that I am still experimenting with ...

It's a present so can't comment on battery life etc, but very impressed with the time it took to get here. Tracking was extremely precise. Very impressed.

I regret not buying this on Amazon due to finding a customer return (unused) at a store and heavily discounted! However I was looking for a replacement for my old ixus 500 and went to look at compact camera's in the flesh so to speak. It is even smaller than my old ixus500 so definately a pocket camera but like all the current ones you have to be aware of the LCD screen so I have a case that I can belt mount for mine The crumpler Muffin Top 55 or Messanger Boy 55 are ideal. Shooting HD video really shook me with such a small thing - results were great. The optical zoom lens has a very practical range. I am one of those few people who like to leave my mobile locked away on holiday but it will come out for evening dinners as with wifi I can operate this little camera remotely by the app to zoom in/out and see the live view on my iphone before takng the picture! Getting the "frame" right helps get the exposure spot on for the perfecty snaps. Wifi but no bluetooth which is a shame because the bluetooth remotes are beter than using self timers. So technology specifics aside this is a really very handy and well appointed compact for getting all your holiday pictures and for those without high end mobiles a very convenient way to record those moments when you need a camera. Get a gorrillapod tripod 325 and you can cover almost any situation.
