Excellent for Oblates.

This is my favourite copy of St. Benedicts Rule. Dates next to the text guide you through a year of daily readings, and it is well introduced by Esther de Waal, who has written a number of books on the Benedictine life.It is also a great piece of history fro those interested in the history of the monastics of yesteryear.Very much recommended to any Church goer!

Bought this second hand, I think from a retired English teacher who marked it as though it was someone's homework. Sure, the page numbers in the index didn't match up, and there were some other printing mistakes making the "English teacher's" marking helpful and irritating as he'd crossed everything out. Some careful "surgery" with a Tipex Mouse soon sorted everything out.The book itself is a fascinating read, especially as Saint Benedict's work so heavily influenced Cranmer in his production of the first English Prayerbook. There is much to learn from Benedict for anyone wanting to sharpen their walk with God... certainly worth a read, even if you are a fussy English Teacher.

Spiritually a very rewarding read. Obviously some of the punishments mentionedwould not be appropriate today, but this aside ,its pages have a lot to offer us in this worldof constant consumer choice and consumption.

Would recommend this book of "Saint-Benedict", to anyone who would like to study the Rule. Very easy to follow.
