This album reminds me why I love country music...
Carrie Underwood was my favorite on American Idol last season, and like Simon, I had her pegged right away. Her voice is incredibly beautiful and touches your heart, makes you feel the words of each song she sings.People have mentioned that she lacked personality on the show, but if you take into account that she's a young, small town girl that has never done anything like Idol before, it makes perfect sense that she would be shy. Contestants like Bo and Constantine were older and had been doing shows all over the place for years, so, it's expected that they would out-do everyone else on that score. Carrie's effortless vocals were more than enough to keep me (and obviously millions of others) happy.Getting down to the album, as the subject reads, it really does remind me of why I favor country music over other genres. In the early 90's, I never listened to anything else. But then, this strand of artists that seemed to be copies of each other took over and I found myself losing interest. Seeing Carrie on Idol earlier this year was like a breath of fresh air. Slowly, I began listening to country radio more and more. Now, here I am, anxious for the evening to come so I can watch the CMA's - something I haven't done in years. With Carrie and some of the other artists (new and old) I've heard here recently, for me, country is back. And better than ever. The first single "Jesus Take the Wheel" is absolutely wonderful. I prefer it very much over "Inside Your Heaven"; this is nothing personal against Carrie, but I never care for the winner's single. JTTW was made for Carrie, and I wish it would have been her debut. The lyrics are strong and anyone can relate to them. Not to mention the vocals are flawless and spectacular. At first listen, I admit, I wasn't overly thrilled with the second single (to AC/Pop), "Some Hearts". Maybe it was because it isn't country. But now, I see the reasoning behind releasing to both genres. And after listening to it the second and third time (and so on), I like it very much. As a matter of fact, I LOVE it. :) It's fun, catchy, vocally sweet and just makes you smile. But I prefer the country stuff. It's her."Wasted", IMO, should most definately be her next single. That's a great song. Again, highly relatable lyrics, lovely vocals and a chorus that you won't be able to get out of your head. The arrangement is very nice.Bottom line, if it's a ballad or an upbeat number, country or pop, Carrie's going to nail it. And she does. This album is highly impressive and IMO, the best Idol offering yet. I say this being a big fan of Kelly, Ruben and Fantasia.Whether you're a fan of her or not, objectively, one simply cannot deny Ms. Underwood's easy grace and brilliant ability to bring life to these tunes. This exquisite collection is something to be remembered for years to come. All that voting was worth it - bravo, Carrie! Bravo!

Best American Idol debut hands down. 4.2 stars
November 22, 2010I re-did my review. Why? Because I changed my mind about this release. I had to buy it once, sell it and then buy it again recently (in October 2010) to fully appreciate the music on here. At first it seemed too country for me and the messages weren't getting through. But most of the songs are really good here.WASTED repetitive chorus but alright song. 4/5DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER ME a song about growing up, moving away and putting your faith in God. 4.25/5SOME HEARTS - a pop-rock crossover hit with great vocals at the end. 4/5JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL a single with religious roots. the ending vocal is great. 4.25/5THE NIGHT BEFORE LIFE GOES ON i love this song. it's about summer lovers having to part. 4.25/5LESSONS LEARNED a song about learning lessons in how you live. 4/5BEFORE HE CHEATS her best selling single ever? 4.5/5STARTS WITH GOODBYE a great song. didn't appreciate it before. 4.25/5I JUST CAN'T LIVE A LIE an excellent song about loving someone so much. my favorite. 4.5/5WE'RE YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL kinda skates on filler because it's not really carrie's forte. but it's catchy and fun to sing to. 4/5THAT'S WHERE IT IS another pop-rock number with really loud guitars that kinda cover up carrie's voice. 4/5WHENEVER YOU REMEMBER a sweet song about carrie and a cherished friend/lover's past. 4.25/5I AIN'T IN CHECOTAH ANYMORE a really good song about carrie missing her hometown. the most country song here. 4.25/5INSIDE YOUR HEAVEN probably the only filler on the CD. i like the the american idol version better. 3.75/558.5/14 = 4.1784.2 stars or an 8.4/10.A great country pop album that has some crossover hits for good measure. Even some non-country fans would like this. Features great vocals although Carrie can be seen as shouting on many songs. I'd like to refer to it as belting.DOWNLOAD:"I Just Can't Live A Lie""Before He Cheats""Starts With Goodbye" &"I Ain't In Checotah Anymore"

Outstanding debut album
To me, the "Some Hearts" album is a lot better album than her sophomore album, "Carnival Ride" which in my opinion had a great start and then started to get average.Every song on "Some Hearts" listenable, with most of them being above average to excellent. It is rare to find CDs where every single song is listenable.I am not a fan of pure country, the style where the vocals sound super twangy and whiny, and the lyrics often are about losing a spouse, dog, etc.I like the blend of country and pop. To me, this album is an excellent example of the country-pop subgenre. Enough twangy sound that one knows it is country, but not overdone like some artists. The lyrics are also generally upbeat/positive.Here is how I rate them...1.Wasted: A2.Don't Forget (To Remember Me): B+3. Some Hearts: A4.Jesus Take the Wheel: A-5.The Night Before(Life Goes On): A+6.Lessons Learned: B7.Before He Cheats: A+8.Starts with Goodbye: C+9.I Just Cant Live a Lie: B10.We're Young and Beautiful: C11.That's where it Is: B-12.Whenever you Remember: B-13. I Ain't in Checotah Anymore - A+14.Inside your Heaven- AMy top 3 favorites wereBefore He CheatsI Ain't in Checotah AnymoreThe Night Before(Life Goes On)Overall, as an Album I give it an "A+". This is one of the best debuts I ever heard. It is very rare where the majority of songs on an album get a "B" or higher from me, and in this case the majority were A's or B's. Quite impressive, and I am not easy to please.

Best Country/Pop Crossover Album Ever?
I have just received my physical copy of Some Hearts. After previously listening to album download I had on my IPod, I knew I just had to get the CD.Wasted - The album opens with this beautifully told story. It really gives you an impression of how perfect the storytelling is going to be for the duration of the CD. Wasted is simply stunning - 10/10Don't Forget To Remember Me - Anyone that has moved out from their parents house, or even people that are planning on doing so, will be able to relate to this. It's a moving account of a girl's journey into the city for the first time without her parents. This was obviously a well chosen track for the album, as I can imagine Carrie can relate to this very well - 9/10Some Hearts - There are only two tracks on this CD that I find bland, this title track being one of them. It's the fastest track on the album so far, but it's lyrics are pretty mediocre. However, Carrie's once again flawless vocals manage to redeem this basic song. - 7/10Jesus, Take The Wheel - This was Carrie's first official single, and it does not disappoint. Even if your not heavily religious, or even religious at all, you can still feel the emotion that this song brings. The video is also worth a watch, but don't forget to bring the tissues. - 9/10The Night Before (Life Goes On) - Lyrically, the story telling of this track is superb. It's quite complex however, so you will need to carefully listen to it, otherwise you will most likely be left confused. Vocally, it's yet again incredible vocals from Carrie. - 9/10Lessons Learned - This song has an almost rock feel to it. It's a powerful and very meaningful song about how even when your heart maybe breaking, or everything feels like its going wrong, it will still be a lesson learned in your life. Uplifting! - 8/10Before He Cheats - Men you'd better watch your backs if your lady has been listening to this. It may give her some crazy ideas, involving your beloved cars. For me, this is one of the best songs on the album, and if you've purchased this CD, you have presumably heard this one before. Lyrically it's lighthearted and fun (in a crazy 'I'm gonna wreck your car' way) and vocally it's strong and sassy -10/10Starts With Goodbye - I'm sure most of us have been in a situation similar to this before. Your in love with someone, but you know it's not working out, so you have to end things even though emotionally it may kill you. Beautifully written with equally beautiful vocals. Perfect! - 10/10I Just Can't Live A Lie - Again, same with the last two tracks. This one is simply flawless. - 10/10We're Young And Beautiful - Upbeat, Fun, Very Country. Not much more to it. - 8/10That's Where It Is - This is a really sweet song, and very easy on the ears. She delivers vocally once again - 10/10Whenever You Remember - Now, this along with Some Hearts are by far, in my opinion the worst tracks on the album. This is probably slightly worse, as not even Carrie's vocals can save it from being dull. It really is as the saying goes 'dull as dishwater' - 4/10I Ain't In Checotah Anymore - This is Carrie's first and only co-write on her debut, and it's very easy to tell that this was written about her personal experiences with fame, and the lifestyle that goes with it. If you're looking for a serious, autobiographical song about fame then this isn't for you. If, however you're looking for something fun, upbeat and a little bit silly then this song is perfect for you.Inside Your Heaven - This is was the American Idol winner's song, and was added as a bonus track. It's amazing vocally, and lyrically it has everything you could possibly expect from a winner's song. - 9/10This really is a phenomenal debut country album. In fact, it's a phenomenal debut album in any genre. It just proves why Carrie Underwood has seen the tremendous amount of success she has done since winning Idol. She is simply incredible.WARNING - If you do not like slow songs, this album is not for you. It is filled with them aside from about 4 fast/mid-tempo tracks.

Brillant 1st album
This has got to be the 1st album that i've liked all songs on by a singer or group. All these songs are fantastic and even pick a song that i like. And this is her 1st album since winning American Idol in 2004. This album is a cross inbetween Country and Pop. I would suggest you buy this album and you'll become a carrie underwood fan

Absolutely Fantastic!
After watching only the final of American Idol 4 online and seeing Carrie win, I immediately decided to buy her album and wasn't disappointed one bit! She has an amazing voice that can rival original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, and the album is simply packed with brilliant songs. Favourites for me are Wasted, Jesus Take the Wheel, The Night Before (Life Goes On), Before he Cheats and of course her first ever single Inside Your Heaven. Can't wait for her second album, hopefully it will be evejn half as good as her first!

good but not great - too many rock sounds
Carrie underwood has power in her voice and is a good singer. She can belt out the notes and looks good on video but her songs sound a bit similarafter you've heard a few of them.Hasn't got Taylor Swift's subtlety.
