If I was using a mineral sunscreen, would I put this on first or second? Does this need to sink into the skin?

Accepted Answer

You can definitely use sunscreen and insect repellent together.  We recommend applying the sunscreen first.  The trick to a comfortable and effective application of sunscreen is to put it on at least 10 minutes before sun exposure.  This will allow ample time for the sunscreen to fully absorb into the skin before your body gets warm out and about in the sun.

Once the sunscreen has dried, you can apply the insect repellent.  Sprays are often most convenient but a nice comfortable topical insect repellent lotion will typically last longer and also be more resilient to swimming and other active use. Question 2

How effective is this for repelling ticks and chiggers?

We spent 10 days in Kenya and had absolutely no mosquito or tick bites. Don't know if they have chiggers there but overall we stayed bite free. Would recommend this product.

Will this really work for minnesota boundary waters mosquitos? I'm skeptical.

I took a picaridin spray (well, not this brand, but I'm sure they're all equivalent) as my only spray on a 5-day trip through the Boundary Waters last summer. While nothing is 100% effective against the clouds you sometimes get, I thought the picaridin spray worked at least as well as the DEET compounds I've always used, both sprays and the slightly scary 80%+ liquid. I felt like I needed to reapply it more often (twice a day, maybe), but that was a small trade-off to keep all of my synthetic gear from melting.

Is this product oily like some lotions

Not at all oily or greasy! It blends into skin smoothly- but it is on the thin side like a regular lotion, rather than thick like sunscreen.
