Really great spade! Been using it on a variety of tough jobs. First impressions the metal making the actual spade end looked quite thin and it really feels quite lightweight, put it too work on some really tough dry clay like soil. Smashed it in with my foot a lot and levered off lumps of clay, no problem at all. The length and fact that's it is light made it very comfortable to use. It does bite in to hard soil very well, obviously if the floor is ultra hard and rocky then a pick axe may be needed as well, but this can really help out destroying tough layers of hard soil. Also used it as a shovel to empty bags of pea shingle and sand etc, it was more comfortable and light to use than my shovel when working with heavy aggregates. It has quickly become my new favourite spade!

I took a chance on this spade and I'm pleased I did. I've been using it for the last three days while converting my garden into an edible forest garden. It's involved digging holes for new trees through a range of soils including areas that are dense with existing roots from other trees, stony soil and the very mixed soil on top of a Cornish wall.Having a spade the right size for my height helps, having one with sharpened point helps too. I'm stamping the spade in and then rocking it back and forth and it works a treat. I'm 5'10 and about 11 stone and it's hard to imagine breaking this spade unless I used it as crowbar. In places I'm moving root masses from established bushes like fuscias and the spade is cutting around and under them well.The spade feels sturdy with good welds and a nice finish on the metal surface of the spade. I'm sure the finish will wear of around the edge, but that will be fine and allow it to be resharened at some time in the future. The handle is comforatble to use all day. It was heavier than I expected but not much heavier than an old smaller spade we have.Overall I would happily recommend it and see no reason why it should not last a very long time.

Getting on a bit, I bought the medium size of this spade to replace an older one. The weight difference is a blessing. This is so easy to use, perfectly balanced and the dished head helps to lift the earth so it's marvellous for turning-over and planting. I'm 5'6" and this is the max handle length for me - anyone shorter would find the smallest spade more convenient, perhaps.

Great ergonomic design, lightweight bit strong. Ideal for hard stoney ground. Handle length is right to give the right amount of leverage which makes the work easy I am a man in my late sixties but had no trouble using this tool. I highly reccomend it and have also bought the pick axe. No I am not on a commission but have bought many tools that make the work hard and this tool has made me think that spending a bit more money sometimes is very much worth it.

Im a landscape gardener, and spades matter to me. This is a great lightweight all round digging spade, I will be repeating the purchase! . Sadlty its quality is not matched by the fork in the same range.

OK, so this isn't a cheap spade by any means, but wow do you get what you pay for. This thing feels engineered rather than built and feels genuinely nice to wield. It's relatively light and yet cuts through heavy soil and plant roots like a knife through butter. Having used it for a few weeks now and dug out countless rose bushes, shrubs, weeds and just about anything else you care to mention, I wish I'd bought it ages ago. If you want the best then just buy the thing. I'm so impressed I've just ordered the shovel from the same range.

I'm 185cm tall and it was perfect for me when building raised beds and digging out the turf and soil.

Best small shovel I've ever had. Highly recommend.

Bisher bin ich mit Fiskars immer gut gefahren und auch dieser Spaten macht einen soliden Eindruck. Erste Grabeversuche verliefen problemlos. Ich hoffe, er wird auch weiter halten, denn einige Rezessionen machen einen etwas unsicher
