Really great buy

This is a very small leather bag supposedly made for men's toiletries. I was very excited to gift this to my husband, but this was the only item that I've ever ordered from Amazon that I had to discard immediately after opening. Even before I opened the plastic bag it was house in I was noticing some strange chemical smell. When I removed this bad out the odor became overwhelming, to the level of nauseating. It smells like toxic waste chemicals, I don't even know how to explain it. I took photos of the product and immediately removed it from the household. When I returned back to my home I still could smell this awful stench, so the whole house had to be aired out. The product is made of real leather, however, it's not good quality leather. It's hard and crinkly. It is not well processed by any means. Do not buy this product. I don't know what that smell was, but it couldn't be possibly safe or good for you.

Lets start with what I liked about this bag: It's real leather, vintage look, zippered pocket on the inside and one on the outside, looped pull double zipper and dog-ear grasp of the top for quick opening. Now for what I don't like: The magnetic button for closure seems to be showing oxidation (forgivable because it's got a vintage look), there is adhesive on the lining (poor quality control), the lining seems sort of cheap, some pieces were assembled/stitched slightly miss-aligned (again, forgivable). And, worst of all, the stench - this is intensely oder-riffic. It smells just like fresh oil based wood stain, they should have let this air-out for months before sending to customers (unforgivable). I have air quality sensors in my house that prove the VOCs coming off this bag. 3 Stars is generous. After a few months, this might be a usable bag, but until then... oh my.

The reason is that when I first removed it from the wrapper, it stunk to high heaven and beyond. I mean, it was really vile and foul-smelling. I don't know exactly what the cause of the odor is/was, but it definitely was gag-inducing. I could not keep it in the house. I had to put it in the garage (2-car) all the way over on the farthest side away from the kitchen door, and even then it stunk up the garage for about a week. I left it there for an additional 2 weeks. After 3 weeks total of off-gassing in the garage, it now smells just like leather should.All that out of the way, the case itself is pretty nice. It's well-sewn and has 2 nice zip pockets (one inside, one outside). The flap opening at the top has a zipper on each side, so it allows complete access to what's inside the case. I really like that. I also like the color and the feel of the leather.There was one additional issue that I was able to resolve, but want to let you know about. There were small metallic spots on the leather when I first took it out of the package. They looked like little dabs of silver paint (although, I don't know exactly what they were or what caused them). I tried sponging them, but they wouldn't come off. So, I tried an ordinary pencil eraser and that did the trick. You can't even tell they were there now.To sum it up, this has some issues at first, but after resolving them, I now like the case a lot. I would buy this for myself again, but if I were going to buy it as a gift, I would be sure to either warn the recipient, or unpack it and let it off-gas before giving it.

When I first saw this bag and unpackaged it, I thought it was small. After opening it up all the way it turned into a nice medium sized bag. This size is nice for the basics: deodorant, toothpaste, shaving accessories. I think most men are accustomed to a larger size and more user friendly to place more items into. I know I am!The bag has a semigloss finish-made of real leather-strong, soft and firm. It offers one small exterior and one interior storage pockets with zippers. All zippers are metal, glide well and of good quality. All the pockets close well, including the top which zips up from both sides when the primary compartment is closed. The design has a leather flap that flips over the top. It is secured by a weak holding magnet. This makes for a nice show piece, however, with use it will get knocked off most time, thus becoming a nuisance putting it back where it goes or creating faster wear on the flap. The interior is made of a cotton product that has a clean appearance. I saw no manufacturing flaws or sewing issues. The measurements stated 9 x 5 x 4 (H). I measured the height consistently to be 5 inches, when opened fully.It does have an extremely offensive -annoying odor that is persistent and will not go away for over a week, kind of a putrid varnish smell. Let's say, not a fresh new leather smell. First the smell has to be corrected, then a stronger magnet, and a larger size bag or offer two sizes for one's preference. Would then be a solid 5-star review. Good value, otherwise.
