The Quintessential book for lovers of San Francisco!
How often do you regret a book's ENDING? This lovely tome on America’s most romantic and exotic city is a permanent resident on my bedside table. Gary Kamiya’s superlative unique writing style combined with his intimate knowledge of San Francisco’s nooks and crannies paired with Paul Madonna’s wondrous line drawings are a match made in Heaven, especially for those of us who love The City. A must read for any San Franciscan or any WANNA BE San Franciscan. An excellent gift for the adventurous traveler or stay at home fantasizer! I’ve bought this book for many and will continue to do so. A terrific read!

Gary Kamiya reignited passion for my city after Covid-19 dulled my senses
I am so thankful for his artful sentences, historical context and detail that has been such a pleasure to read. I cannot believe how quickly he wrote this love letter to San Francisco and was excited to see the artwork unfold from Paul Madonna's view. After feeling somewhat disillusioned with my habitat during the pandemic (we stayed in the city unlike so many others who fled) I now get to have a poetic context to live through!

Fun, beautiful book about San Francisco
I enjoyed reading "Spirits of San Francisco". All the stories are fun, engaging, and informative. Learned a lot about one of my favorite cities. The illustrations are a nice bonus to the stories in the book.
