Not Helpful
I bought this so I could better understand how to use the Procreate app on my iPad. I wanted to learn how to navigate and create my own art. This book is basically teaching the reader how to create the art showcased in the book. I did not find it very helpful for my needs.

Excellent book for learning IPad Art
I love this book! The author teaches you art basics such as perspective, colors, and foundations of art before jumping into digital art, which most of the chapters covers Procreate, as well as Artrage and others. Not only will you learn the basics but you will learn how to paint portraits, pets, and other creative works! I highly recommend this book it is a step by step format. I also recommend You tube or Skillshare in addition if you need visuals to get an overview of the apps used.

It's OK
Has some OK information, but not really that in depth like I was wanting.Very basic information. If you want more detail - I would pass.

Great things come in small packages: a concise can’t live without manual!
Allison Jardine has created a truncated version of some of those large cumbersome painful art books. Her book is quite the opposite: it gives you the same overview of basic art principles in terms of color shading and value, while also giving you simple practice exercises. It’s only 144 pages but it’s more valuable than most of the art books I have that exceed 500 pages. Ms. Jardine should consider this a great contribution to thr Sparse universe of iPad art books. As some of you know who have emailed me, I only comment on things that I think are fantastic. This is worth every penny!

Packed with good teaching
The book discusses general art principles as well as details of using several art apps. The tutorials, as far as I’ve got, are detailed enough that you can get good results. The tips for being productive with the apps are wonderful.

Not a software manual: it's a book about art!
I've noticed at least one popular review has remarked that Jardine's book is no use unless you know how to use the software. Although I've only managed to wrestle my daughter's copy for a quick flick before it vanished again before my very eyes, it looks to be based on Artrage - an excellent app available for iOS, Windows and MacOS so it covers a whole range of systems. However, you have to know how to use the software you bought first or it's going to be pretty useless. Criticizing beginners guide to painting -and particularly one as accessible as this- because you haven't figured out how to use the application is like criticizing the guy you just drove into because you haven't learned how to drive. My daughter is 13 and a keen digital artist but wanted to know more about the greats (Monet, for example) and Jardine takes us through multiple styles gently, step by step in a format that even an old duffer like me can follow. Well, I could if i could get hold of the book long enough. That will teach me for not buying a second copy when I had the chance.Although based on Artrage (which is commercial and excellent value) my daughter has easily translated Alison's descriptions direct into Krita which is free (as in beer) for Windows and Linux. Krita is a tough app to learn but since she's mastered the basics, Alison's observation and well-paced tutorials had her making art in a matter of minutes. Thanks Alison... I owe you a beer.Months later and I'm far better at art (and appreciating art than I ever was before). There's something intimate about Alison's book that explains the craft in way that us oldies can grasp.I guess that's two beers now Alison - hopefully we'll get to shake hands at some future event. Thank you again.

Excellent and accessible guide
I saw this book on sale in the shop at the Royal Academy following the Hockney exhibition, so I felt it had the right credentials. Having bought it in Kindle format, I found it very helpful and learned plenty by following on with the suggested exercises. Glad to have this book in my library.

Very useful for the intermediate user.
This is a delightful book. It provides projects that really give a good feel for the use of color, layers and tools. Since my older iPad could not download her favourite program, I had to spend quite a bit of time figuring out which of the tools on my own programs would give a similar result. For this reason, I would not recommend the book to a total beginner.

Great book but assumes you know the apps!
This is an excellent book but assumes fluent knowledge of the named apps. I have had to put it aside until I get the experience required.
