#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Meet the little leaders. They're brave. They're bold. They changed the world. Featuring 40 trailblazing black women in history, this book educates and inspires as it relates true stories of women who broke boundaries and exceeded all expectations, including: Nurse Mary Seacole Politician Diane Abbott Mathematician Katherine Johnson Singer Shirley Bassey Bestselling author and artist Vashti Harrison pairs captivating text and beautiful illustrations as she tells the stories of both iconic and lesser-known female figures. Among these biographies, readers will find heroes, role models, and everyday women who did extraordinary things. Review: Beautifully illustrated and written book - I love the little leader series of books, such a fun way to present important figures past and present. My daughter really loves looking at all the illustrations and it helps her connect to each person's story and really remember what I'm reading to her. We purchased this to enhance our Black history month book selection especially ones focusing on black women, but there are so many amazing women in this book we couldn't possibly cover it in one month, so this adorable book stays out almost all the time. The book itself is very sturdy and made it extremely well. Adorable illustrations and factual yet kid friendly bios on each person listed. We have had many learning and bonding experiences over this book, from listening to new music and poetry to learning about how many of these amazing women were connected throughout history and helped and inspire one another. Must read for all ages Review: Awesome Book For Any Child’s Library! - Purchased this book on behalf of my 87 year old dad as part of a baby shower gift for an impending great granddaughter. He had already signed Vashti Harrison’s Dream Big Little One and Think Big Little One board books, I’d gotten for him, but he realized that Rosa Parks wasn’t in either of those. As a man raised in the south and having lived through her history, it was important to him personally that Mrs. Parks story be included with his gift. So despite the many duplicates amongst these three titles, we added this one to the little ones library as well. Thank you Ms. Harrison for these quality, very much needed and appreciated books for the littles!

Love this book
I got this book for my 11 year old sister who has ADHD and getting her to pay attention to a book can be hard but she absolutely loves this book, she can stare at the pictures and read the summaries all day long if I allow her to. It is her nightly bedtime story and she has to have it or she will cry. I made the mistake of taking it to visit family and forgetting it, that was one hard night. I had to order another one ASAP and just left the other one to ensure there is always one back home. I love pictures and how simple and pretty they are and i love how the book can be for older kids and little kids because it challenges their vocabulary. I just love the book and I love how it makes my sister feel, and it remindes her that she can accomplish anything.

Thank You, Vashti! (A Review and Two Recommendations)
We are so delighted with this book. The obscure facts and unsung heroines inside the covers of this accessible tome have really made our daughters interested in so much about their history and heritage. Thank you, Vashti, for publishing what began as a simple project during Black History Month. Recommendations: 1. The book is best read and discussed with younger children. My six year old daughter had some trouble deciphering a few of the words and terms, but it gave my wife and I the opportunity to elaborate on the subject matter. 2. In this age of YouTube and Google, we found it really helpful and engaging to show videos from the press, presentations, competitions, and events these ladies took part in. We showed video of Florence Griffith Joyner and my youngest was over the moon about her nails and her speed. We dug up additional info on Mae Jemison (including some of the new Star Trek Discovery series, since she learned to love space travel from Star Trek) and my oldest was pumped. Not sure if these expanded resources are available in the ebook, but this might be a great tie-in. Again, Thank you, Vashti Harrison.

Great for bedtime stories
My son is only a year old, and I've been reading Harrison's books to him as part of his bedtime routine for months. He's too young to really engage with the books, but they're my favorite to read to him. I love knowing that he's getting exposed to a variety of words. I could read newspaper articles, but these stories teach me more about the diversity in the world and are happy and inspiring. I know he hears that in the tone of my voice. Each story is pretty short and I know I can get through 2-3 while he finishes his bottle. Spending 15 minutes of my day alone with my son, reading inspiring stories about interesting people is something I always look forward to. I'm trying to find more books like this series, but these books are so unique. I highly recommend them!

A book to help mold little readers
This book is a delightful surpise that offers such rich history about Black women. My granddaughter loves this book! It's about short stories (snipets) about strong black women who were leaders in their field many years ago and how their many contributions helped shape this country. Their knowlege and actions to society should never be forgotten. While reading it with my granddaugher I learned about women I've never known about while learning important facts about them. After reading we wanted to learn more about them so we researched and learned so much more. This is a good book that can be used to introduce black history lessons in the classroom and could be a great gift for all children. Vashti Harrison, the author, should win an award for enlightening all young readers with these wonderful stories and to dream of becoming a leader someday. I referred it and my sister and pastor who have purchased it as well.

Great for kids and adults
One page stories with illustration s of 50 pioneering black women. I have been reading this to my 5 and 7 year old grandaugthers when then visit me. We usually read 2 stories/visit, and I let them choose which ones to read. They are busy doing so many other things when they are here, 2 is all they have to attention to listen. It does stimulate discussion about these women. My 7 year old says it's too hard for her to read, but I think she just wants me to read to her!! Should be a good age for a child to read.

Auch schwarze Mädchen brauchen Vorbilder!
Wundervoll!

Beautiful book with fantastic content
This book has been on my wishlist for a while, trying to build up my daughter's library! The book is beautifully illustrated and the mini biographies of the black women is not too wordy so it's quite nice to read. My daughter is only 18 months old now but I want her to grow up and be inspired by the great women who came before her. There are lots of familiar names in the book such as: Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Nina Simone, but there are some lesser known names (to me) so I'll be learning too. Thoroughly recommended book.

J'aurais aimé avoir accès à ce genre de livre quand j'étais enfant. Les dessins sont très beaux.
