I wasn’t sure what the quality of this Casio calculator was going to be like when I ordered it, but was amazed at the quality of the build and the ease of use when it arrived. The display is so clear and vibrant and the buttons are so positive and big enough for most fingers. It’s a perfect size, not too big or too small. For the money you can’t get any better calculator anywhere.

I have an MX-8B calculator which is working OK, except it is useless in the dark (does not have a backup battery). I thought I would give this new version a try because the description says it has an AAA battery backup (absolutely no idea how you can change it when needed though). First strange thing - calculator comes boxed with no instructions - although when I cut the box open at the 'scissor' picture, I found a short specification list and a few calculation ideas. The specification actually says - Power source - Solar cell and one LR54 button type battery - no mention of AAA. You have to take the calculator to a dealer to get the battery replaced... at the price, it is easier to throw it away and get a new one!That aside - the layout of the keys is sightly different - there is no 'off' switch (apparently you have to wait 10 minutes for auto shutoff, but that was only found out after cutting the box)! What I do not like is there is now an additional key with 00 where the 0 used to be,. the On,C/AC button has moved up and the 0 is under it. I do not find 00 key useful at all but it would have been better out of the way, with the 0 key under the 1 as before. There is also an arrow key, which after searching I found takes one digit off your entry. Not sure why you would want this and it replaced the % key, which is now at the top instead of an off switch. For some, who use calculators on a daily basis, perhaps these changes are fine, but I prefer the old layout. Having 12 digit on the display makes the digits smaller, although still clear.I like Casio calculators, they are simple, accurate and inexpensive and this is no exception, but I am not so sure this is a hugely positive step forward. I just hope this one lasts as long as the other!
