Collins Tree Guide
E**.
Beautifully illustrated
My mum loved this book. chose this one as it is meant to have all of the trees in the UK, not just the most common which is what I found some of the other books covered. The beginning of the book is great where it helps you to identify branch and leaf type.

Very comprehensive.
An excellent field guide to British and European trees. A bit big and heavy to be called a pocket guide but very comprehensive and well illustrated.

Very comprehensive
This is an extensive compilation of trees that can be found in the UK. The information contained is most informative. It is a book for the more keen naturalist I feel as the variety of trees in any given category could overwhelm the casual observer. For my purposes, however, it is a very good and useful guide.

something of great beauty and can live a thousand years
Trees... something of great beauty and can live a thousand years. Just look around you, how many can you name? I was shocked at my ignorance. We use them for houses, furniture, heating and visual stunning backdrops. A world without trees would not exist. They extract one of the worlds most dangerous greenhouse gases and convert it into oxygen. This book is filled with great information on these amazing living organisms. The drawings are in some ways better than photo's when identifying different types... and they have families and cousins just like us and have preferences, where they like to grow. My only (minor) thing would be that it covers Europe as well as the UK and thus includes a lot of variations of trees that may not be found in the UK. But that said.... if you want to uncover the beauty of one the greatest natural friends we have, this book did it for me.

An excellent introductory guide.
I highly recommend this to anyone curious to identify and know more about trees. Although there are only some 60 trees native to the UK for example, globalization has brought numerous additional species to our gardens and nurseries. Hence some 1600 taxa (of the 6000 known in European collections) are lavishly illustrated. Many trees have become popular worldwide, and so this book is useful in the wider world as a basic guide. It aims at quick and easy identification- at least of the genus (although if you are living outside the UK you might have to do an internet search to find the exact species). Thus, the bud and leaf key at the front is very handy, and the paperback edition ( 13.4 X 19.4 cm) is a convenient size. The artwork is good and accurately shows the buds, leaves and trees in a way that makes ID fairly simple.
