We needed an inflatable collar for the dog since the traditional e-collar was out of the question with an active and not so bright Boxer in the house. He managed to cut open his front leg and trying to treat with the salve and keep his face and mouth away from it has been a treat, lemme just say. This was a much easier and more effective way that still allowed for easy access to food and water and kept the knick knacks on our fireplace that were all taken out when he had the cone of shame from the vet.This was easy to inflate and hasn't had to have air added more than once in the two weeks we've had it on him. He wasn't able to get his mouth to the open area to lick or pull off the bandage and it hasn't affected the way he functions on his day to day, so it's a huge benefit compared to the plastic ecollar we originally had him in. I've noticed it seems a lot more comfortable for when he's laying in his bed too. And the fact it had a cute donut design just made the kids happy instead of focusing on the whys of the collar.

I've purchased many of similar products in my life for my other dogs. This one is the best yet! Here are its best features:- It has a built-in collar (a huge plus for me since other products don't come with the collar and my small dogs don't have one - I use body harnesses to attach the leashes and have no collars in my house)- It is adorable! Even my vet's office employees were in awe and were taking a ton of pictures)- It is easy to inflate and it stays inflated- It is easy to adjust as necessary as well as easy to take offHighly recommend! I used it on both my Pomeranians post-surgery and did very well with it.

We ordered the XL for our 88lb doberman. We sized up a little to get the widest possible donut as I had concerns that he could possibly reach his face.Our dog had surgery to remove some growths on various parts of his body. I would say it does an excellent job of protecting his wounds on his belly, butt, neck, and upper legs. There is no way he can reach those areas or his entire back. It does not protect our dogs face or toes up to about the middle of his legs.He had a growth removed on his eyelid and this is where we ran into problems. He is able to reach his face and eyes with his back legs to itch. He can also lick his legs from his toes up to about halfway so if you have anything you’re trying to protect in those two areas then I would consider a full cone that covers up to your dogs nose. There’s really nothing I’ve found yet that can replace it.The second problem in our case is he also rubs his head on furniture and people to itch the surgery site on his eyelid. It is not necessarily the products fault in this case, we just didn’t see that one coming. I am a bit disappointed that he can reach his head with his legs so I knocked off a star for that.Some other cons, he cannot use the dog door and we had to close it as he almost destroyed the watermelon trying to squeeze out.I mentioned we sized up, I would do that again because we needed the extra width on the donut but be aware the velcro rough/smooth alignment will be off. It’s okay in our case but could definitely benefit from restitching.For pros, it’s fairly easy for him to eat and drink still, the donut is not in the way at all. He maintains much better peripheral vision and he is much happier in this rather than the cone. He also learned to use it like a pillow. It is a soft although very thin material.Visually speaking, he has never looked cuter. We love the image. It’s comical and endearing to look at this big puffy watermelon with our dogs head in the middle and it definitely scores him even more pets and kisses.A good middle ground we found is to keep the watermelon on when we are around so we can watch him if he moves to itch. He listens fairly well to us so it works in our case. But if we’re too busy or not home we switch to the tried and true comfy cone which covers him all the way up to his nose. He hates it and mopes around but it gives everyone more independence. He can kind of squish thru the dog door and we’re not worrying about the stitches.Anyway, it’s all temporary for a couple weeks….

So Ella had surgery on her lip to remove a tumor. Ergo cone of shame.I knew she would need one for a longer period so elected to try the inflatable as we really just needed her to not scratch her ears. She hates the traditional cones so I thought I would try this.We ordered the XL as she was 2 inches above the large on the size chart for neck when measuring. Ella is a 5 year old 85 lb Golden retriever.I’ll start with the pros.It’s cute, it’s overall easy to set up. It dries fast. It’s easy to wipe down. It’s somewhat of a pillow so she can lay on it and snuggle more comfortably than a traditional plastic cone.Cons.It doesn’t prevent her from going to a doorjam and yanking out 6/7 sutures. Or going to a wall at an angle and rubbing at her face.If she eats with it on (which is necessary or she stops to scratch) the cover gets quite dirty. Almost need two so that you can trade them out.I’ve been using dawn power wash spray on a papertowel to clean up between meals. I also use dog wipes on her fur to help with any itchiness.I found it impossible to inflate without using my air pump. So make sure you get one if you don’t have. It also needs to be partially reinflated each day as well as the collar adjusted as the collar material comes loose.Ella has successfully escaped twice from the cone of shame in the morning before I add more air by rubbing against the wall/door moulding in the hallway. I think she’s rolling until the collar starts to loosen as the material doesn’t stay set and then finishes it off on the woodwork.If your doggo is smart and an escape artist like mine then be prepared to set the alarm to add the extra air every morning so they won’t escape said cone of shame when you’re in the shower.I also had to cut excess off the Velcro strap as it was extremely long and dangling on the ground where she would trip even if I looped it. I cut off over 6 inches. I thought this was strange as the collar (though I need to tighten it daily) doesn’t have a lot of spare room.Overall I’m rating it a 3. Mainly for novelty factor and that it’s soft for her to lie on. There are some obvious design flaws of the cone for the more creative dogs like mine though that enjoy a challenge.If your dog is lazy you’re probably fine with minimal worry and just the daily adjustment.I think they need to make the collar material better. It’s too easy for dogs to slip at current as it gets loose with repeated movement. I have to tighten it daily.I think for the size fit some not much larger dogs than Ella would have trouble getting into the XL.As my dog was successful in yanking out 6/7 sutures overnight while in the cone and required an emergency vet visit in the morning I can’t say I’m entirely pleased with the product.Pictures of Ella in her cone and Ella with her sutures gone.
