I purchased this as a gift and the kids absolutely loved this. There is a large amount of clay to be used and to play with.

5 year old granddaughter loved this kit.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for an 8 year old. She loves pottery and making things, and as this was on a special deal at the time I thought it would be quite a good option for her to do at home, without having to buy too many additional materials.The slab of clay that comes with it is pretty large, so you could make a few items- it isn't just one of those one hit wonders where you can't do much with it :-) The instructions are very clear as well- although the child needed a little bit of help she was able to read them on her own, and digest what was meant to be done but at the same time it didn't make it too simple and dumbed down for older kids.The clay is air dry so you just have to leave it overnight and then you can paint it the next day. This might pose a little issue for some children who are impatient, but quite frankly shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest sticking to a simple design as the more complex ones- like the jewellery box- was a little complicated and didn't work too well.It is a great set, and excellent value. You will easily get your money's worth out of it. I would certainly purchase it again for another child. I think it would be usable for either sex, up until the age of probably 10 or 11, although you might get away with a bit older if they are really into art.

Very difficult for young children- bought for a 5 yr old and took adults to try to model anything similar to box illustrations!

Kids loved it. They supply a good amount of clay. It’s a bit messy so just make sure you put something down.It took about 36 hours for the bigger bits to dry (my kid made something similar to the rainbow style on the front) so not for the impatient children (thankfully mine are ok).The paint dried pretty quick but unfortunately one colour was dry. Only provided one paintbrush, with two kids they were a little annoyed they couldn’t do it together but overall, for the price, kept them busy on and off for a little while.
