Q: Can it be built with the door on the backside, so the roofs low side is the door side?

Not without some extra parts.. If you flip it, the overhang blocks the door from opening, but i cut some strips of wood (3/4" X 1/2") to raise the entire roof assembly 1/2 inch and was able to reverse the roof. Now the low side is on the door and i can lean it against the house. I just stained and sealed the wood because it is visible from the outside.

Q: Could I fit a 7 ft step ladder on the diagonal?

We don't use it for large items. But do the math. Draw a rectangle five units by three units on a piece of paper, and measure the diagonal. I'm sure you'll find that that diagonal is nowhere close to 7 feet. Good luck.

Q: the 5'x3' size means 5foot length by 3foot wide? if so what is the height?

The dimensions listed on the Amazon page are: LxWxH = 71.2 x 61.1 x 34.2 inches I think the dimensions are apprx. 3 ft. deep x 5 ft. wide and 6 ft. tall which slopes down in the back to about 5 ft.

It might be big enough, but it might not be very airy with the door closed
