Don’t make ice in it. My grandson loves his. I’ve never used it for ice.

Q: So teach a child that anything that looks like a remote is to be fair game for chewing?

No. Teach them not too or anything else that they don’t need to put in their mouth. Unfortunately kids are too smart these days and doesn’t play with the play remote anyway. I spent money for her to ignore it and all her other stuff.
