Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

A classic!
A movie to watch over and over again! I much prefer this version to the Johnny Depp edition. Wonderful performances from everyone, especially Gene Wilder.

A really nice movie
Ya know, this is nice. It is well done and I enjoyed it.But then we consider the target audience and the test of time. The musical elements are nice, but they slow down the rhythm of the film and in doing so lose an audience much younger than me. During them my 5 1/2 year old grandson's eyes kind of glassed over (and I must admit, so did my 59 year old eyes).I therefore favor the much more recent and non-musical "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

Buy this one, not the remake.
Way better than the remake. And by way better, I mean that there's no competition. Johnny Depp is a great actor but it's kind of insulting to have anyone portray a part that Gene Wilder mastered.

Classic To Own
So very glad we now own this classic movie. The new Burton version is stellar, however the original is brilliant! Was delivered in great shape & on time!

scared 5 yr olds
I loved this movie and so bought for my twin nephew and niece and their big sister. The little ones were afraid of the oopma loompa characters. So I said no Wizard of Oz this year!

One of my most favorite childhood movies
One of my most favorite childhood movies, and to see it so clearly and vivid with the Blu-Ray makes a difference you can see. One wants to share this movie with generations to come.

A classic 'golden ticket' film with a great message to adults and childrenn alike
Written by Raoul Dahl, with music by Anthony Newley, and filled with suprises galore, this children's classic is vividly brought to life by the incomparable Gene Wilder who plays Willie Wonka. We meet Charlie and his lazy good-for-nothing family and a whole host of parents who have reared the most obnoxious children imaginable who are invited to a tour of a chocolate factory (filmed in the Tobler factory in Switzerland) and to be given a lifetime supply of chocolate IF they win one of five 'golden tickets' hidden in five 'Wonka' bars. The film is full of twists and turns - as the winners embark on their weird, dark, sinsiter tour - filled with lots of philosophical statements on the way. What happens to the 'winners'? You will just have to watch this fabulous classic to find out.As to the cinematography - its magical. Be warned - you will come away with a different outlook on life as you enter and leave a 'world of sweet imagination'.

Snowflakedom and self-entitlement started here.
Snowflakedom and self-entitlement all started here in this, the original adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic. Basically, a poor deprived kid (Charlie) and his family spend the first part of the film believing he should be one of the lucky five winners of a golden ticket because he "wants it more" than anyone else. To be fair, the mother is a bit more realistic about things, but she hasn't the balls to stand up to her sprog, preferring to sing a drab number behind his back as he wanders off in his snowflakey way.Eventually Charlie gets his golden ticket and joins the other brats at the gate of Wonka's factory and so begins the good part of the film. Gene Wilder does an excellent job as Wonka and the Oompa Lumpas are great although the "oranging up" might today be offensive to fans of the Kardashians, TOWIE, etc.Personally, I was disappointed with the size of Augustus Gloop. After watching several episodes of "My 600lb Life" recently, Gloop is a comparable athlete to the fatties of 2018 - something that I feel could have been corrected with some computer effects for the Blu-ray release. I always thought the teacher that couldn't work out 2/1000 as a percentage added a nice bit of realism to the fantastical adventure and the cheesy ending had a bit of a paedo vibe to it. If it weren't for those gripes, this would be a five star movie.

The original and best
This is the original and by far the best adaption of this film except for the bit with the squirrels in Tim Burton's version which is better and more faithful to the book than the same scene in this film. What makes it better? Well its not the props, some of which look a bit cheap and basic, though some of the opening scenes in the factory are impressive. Probably it's down to better acting, both the adults and the children even Mike Teevee's dad.
