An excellent, easy to use heater. Updated with heating costs.
The heater is very sturdy and well made. The fan runs very quietly. I have just started using it to keep my 8 feet by 6 feet greenhouse at a minimum of 7 degrees c.The thermostatic control seems to work very well too. You plug it in, and hold down the on button for more than 3 seconds and it switches on. The ambient temperature is then clearly displayed in big red numbers. If you want to turn the thermostat unit off you just press the off button for more than 3 seconds. I guess these long presses are designed to stop you switching it off by accident.Once the unit is switched on, you set the temperature you want to maintain as follows. Just touch either the up or down arrrow button, and the digital temperature reading starts to flash. Then press the up or down button to change the flashing number. Stop pressing the button once you get to a figure 2 degrees above the minimum you want to maintain. That temperature is then stored. The numbers stop flashing and the ambient temperature is displayed again. In order to maintain a minimum of 7 degs c, I had to set the thermostat to 9 degs. On a frosty evening I stood and watched as the heater quickly warmed the greenhouse to 9 degs. The heater switched off straightaway. The ambient temperature then dropped slowly to 8 degs, and then down to 7 degs. As soon as it reached 7 degs the heater switched on again and pushed the temperature back to 9 degs. The temperature sensor itself is a small black tip at the end of a black wire a couple of metres long. This lenght of wire allows you to place the sensor just where you want amongst plants or hanging down from above. It seems from the instruction manual that you can put the sensor into an aquarium or into soil.So it's all going well so far! I hope the cacti appreciate all this care and attention and flower in the spring!I've just looked at how heating my 8' by 6' greenhouse costs me in electricity over a winter month. It's a Gabriel Ash cedar greenhouse on a dwarf wall, and I have added insulation to the dwarf wall inside, but no extra insulation on the glass. The roof vent area has also been covered off for the winter. My extra electric use from February into March 2014, compared to the same month in 2013, is an extra 3.2 Kwh during the day, and an extra 2.6 Kwh on economy 7 rates at night. I guess it's been a mild month, but I hope that's a guide.

Perfect plant protection
Arrived days earlier than expected and just as the mercury dropped below 0°CNot set it up yet but I researched this very carefully and this brand is reportedly very reliable, especially the separate thermostat version which I have.KeenGardener were the best seller for price at the time and I'm delighted with their delivery. Well packaged. Just need to plug it in now. I did have power put in my greenhouse as it was built last month in readiness for the cold weather and this specific heater. Happy customer.

Very good heater
If I bought it again I would buy the one with the digital thermometer attached, it would make lives a lot easier. That said it is very quiet and efficient

This is the best heater and thermostat I have ever used in my ...
This is the best heater and thermostat I have ever used in my greenhouse ( a very lot of years). It is well built, sturdy, reeks quality, impressive right out of the box. The thermostat can be placed remotely where your plants are. I have never had one that works so accurately, I have it set for 7deg, my high low digital thermometer shows a high if 7 and a low of 6.3 less than one degree. These reading are when the outside temperature was under 3deg. The heating elements are not the usual heating wire coils but are two heating rings similar to a hob or kettle elements, everything is well sealed and is quoted to be spray safe, just what I need in my greenhouse. When used with the thermostat and reaches the set temperature the heater and fan stops. I have checked it for over heating of the elements at that point, the body is fixed to slope upwards a little so cold air is drawn up through the tube as it cools, the mesh at the front gets hot but the case remains cold, I can't see a difficulty here as I use it but I am not going to test it up to high temperatures in my green house. As to the cost, worth every penny. For info., my green house is 6X8 situated in a wind sheltered but not frost sheltered area. I use it for over wintering plants and seedlings.

First rate heater with excellent internal thermostat - don't waste your money on the heater + external thermostat option
This is an excellent heater: sturdy, very quiet and economical in operation, and with an accurate internal thermostat. Don't waste your money on the heater plus digital thermostat option. The heater's internal thermostat is actually more accurate than the separate digital thermostat and only fractionally harder to set-up. You will need a separate thermometer to set it up, but you just need to put the heater in your greenhouse or conservatory when the temperature is below your desired minimum, turn the temperature dial up to full, switch on, wait for the temperature to reach your desired level, then turn the dial down until the thermostat switches off. Importantly, the fan keeps running when the heating element turns off, which is (a) better for your plants and (b) better for the heater - my original heater failed after just one month of use with the separate digital thermostat - every time the thermostat cut all power and caused the fan to suddenly stop running, it overheated - triggering the emergency cut-out and eventually leading to complete failure of the heater.

Nothing to fault with this product.
First thoughts for me.The cost, this heater is not cheap ?Did I need the Digital Thermostat ?Well over the last 4 months this little heater and thermostat have been keeping the green house at a constant above 12 degrees I am so confident of this heater that the novelty of checking the display has truly warn off, its a fantastic combination for my needs.I know its running when it needs and I know its not when it warms up sufficiently, I would like to say that I have not noticed a spike on the electric bill either, I hope to be able to try and then report on the cooling assistance when the weather warms up somewhat.pleased I went with the spend its a very solid great looking heater that just does what it says on the tinThe seedlings are thriving in the green house at this time
